So I booted up the client today and it told me I might have some corrupted files in my resource database. I let it try and verify the database, and now it's presumably redownloading corrupted data or something, because it's downloading 12.3GB of data. The download is going to take 30 hours. What the fuck.
Why do these things happen to me Previous adventures in TSW glitches and bugs include: Crashing a server and getting told by a GM "we thought we'd fixed that bug"
OH HEY THERE'S A TSW THREAD HERE!!! I'm glad, I love this game now and I love to talk about the things I love I actually stumbled across finding out about it by random blog surfing and finding a post where someone extolled its virtues and I went huh! I might actually want to try this! The only MMO I'd been playing before was RIFT and after it switched to a business model of 'make the player feel like we're rifling through their pockets all the time' it had lost me pretty hard, and I was getting pretty tired of chainmail bikini fantasy, an increasingly hostile player base, and having more skill buttons than I could keep track of for one role, much less being able to switch to other roles and still know wtf. Imagine my surprise when I get into the game and there's ACTUALLY GOOD VOICE ACTING. Like, really good voice acting. And cutscenes?! And no fucking pauldrons that make my dude six feet wide???? SIGN ME UP. And then I got to be pleased that when a monster telegraphs an action via the chalklines on the ground they don't come in a fuckbillion colors that blend in with the scenery half the time, they're JUST WHITE. I can actually see them in time to react to them! So even though I'm bad at combat (@Mala your build suggestions helped a lot, I'm just. Bad at games. :')) and apparently pretty bad at a lot of the types of puzzles it has and REALLY BAD at sneaking, I am having so much fun with it. It's a game I can be bad at and still have fun with, and I really appreciate that. I also like that 90% of the time I don't have to fucking trudge all the way back to whoever gave me the quest to turn it in, and that there's surprisingly little backtracking at all.
You can indeed buy it through Steam! I recommend (as was recommended to me) waiting for a sale and then getting the Ultimate edition. It seems like when it goes on sale it goes on really deep sales, on the order of 60-70% off.
noted!! though I may just beg for someone to buy it for me for Christmas :P because I'm rarely on Steam anyway, and it only notifies me of sales via my email, which I.....never check..... but I added it to my wishlist!!
"heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy friend of mine, do you.....feel like spending sixty bucks on me for Christmas....."
You will be happy to know that Steam has Christmas sales :3c Games that go on sale often usually go on sale during the Christmas sales, ime! This years' will probably start on Dec. 22. I can make a note in the thread about it if it goes on sale, if you'd like! I check Steam daily so it's no trouble at all. (The Ultimate edition also comes with an additional copy of the base game - at least, mine did - so you may be able to butter up your friend further with that if they'd like to play.)
oooh yes please do make note here if it goes on sale!! also I was kidding--I'd never ask a friend to spend that much money on me. I'm still struggling with "accept gifts that cost more than $20" so asking them to buy me this is. unlikely :P but maybe I can get a job or something between now and the 22, idk. there is something that I could maybe do? so. we will see.
The ultimate edition was like... $18? When I got it during the Fall sale, and I think the base game was around $10. Apparently it goes on sale like that a lot, so those are some target numbers to shoot for. :)
I might have to pick this up again. I was super hyped to try it out a couple of years ago, bought a version for me, my ex, and his friend after getting enthusiastic noises about playing together, and they proceeded to play for 2 hours, drop it, an insist we play something else x.x
Looks like you don't have to worry about playing alone now :D Oh right - paging @rainbowbarnacle since I sperged at her so hard about tsw I got her into it too :3
Visited google to look up How To Play This Game, and this was one of the sidebar ads in the results, and I've died. I've ascended.
Not playing on my own would also be great as I am the biggest wuss to ever wuss and need to employ the buddy system when freaked out x3
Oh, here's another guide specifically for beginners! ... I had no idea this game comes with a manual.
