Spoiler: questions in need of answering for this AU ....definitely not bc I'm planning on writing any sort of fic in this universe..... do the quirks Monoma passes to others when copied have a time limit as his normal copy does, or does it just stay until Monoma takes it or something? what's the limit on this? is it based on Monoma's own abilities, or is it the usual five minutes, or is it still time-limited but expanded? does the other person gain total understanding of the quirk the way Monoma seems to? does Monoma retain the copied quirk after passing it on to someone, like does it stack, or if he passes it can he then copy a new quirk, or can he not copy a new quirk until the quirk he passed fades from that person? can he pass multiple quirks to the same person at the same time? can he pass multiple quirks to different people so everyone has a copied quirk all in the same timespan? theorize with me pls
Spoiler: theorizing well, the idea i had in mind was that the Copy part of his quirk works like it used to — activates upon touch, duplicated perfectly, only has it for five minutes, can only copy one quirk at a time (according to bnha wiki; i couldn’t remember if he could copy more than one thing, so i looked it up; if the wiki is wrong let me know). but he also has the “can permanently pass down a quirk” part of OfA — so if he passes down a copied quirk within five minutes of copying it, the recipient has it permanently. he can’t take it back. (recipient is also able to pass it along, like OfA.) once the five minutes are up he doesn’t have the copied quirk anymore, like normal, but if he passed it down to someone, they keep it. also... hmm. in this AU when he used copy on midoriya he got the “permanently pass down a quirk” quirk (the original quirk of the first holder of OfA) and not the stockpiling quirk. i can’t decide if this means... ok, scenario. person A has quirk A and person B has quirk B. monoma copies quirk A and gives it to person B. person B now essentially has 3 quirks: -their original quirk (quirk B) -their new quirk (quirk A) -and the quirk by which they can pass down quirk A to someone else if monoma then copies person B, does he get -quirk B, person B’s original quirk? -or the “permanently-pass-on-quirk” quirk? the one thing i know he doesn’t get is quirk A, bc he didn’t get Stockpile when he copied midoriya. but i can’t decide if quirk B would take precedence or if quirk-quirk does. anyways... he can pass down different quirks to different people; he just has to work with Copy’s limitations — he can’t copy two quirks at once (according to wiki) so he also can’t gift multiple quirks at a time. the recipient doesn’t gain knowledge of their new quirk, bc that’s part of Copy and that’s not what’s being passed down. also, i would think that if he wanted to give the same quirk to more than one person, he would have to re-copy it after giving it to one person before he could give it to another. overall this is, well, pretty damn OP, so depending on how powerful you wanted All for All to be, you could add in a time limitation on how long recipients retain new quirk. but if you wanted an AU in which the power to change the entire society of quirks by creating thousands of new quirk lineages was given to Monoma, then this is what i’ve got, lol. (i’m also thinking about writing something for this but many/most of my writing projects stall out in the “thinking about it” phase, so who knows. please feel free to use this stuff if you want to write fic for this concept!)
Spoiler Unrelated to the theorizing but interesting for the AU, as an adult, I could see Monoma setting up a business like "unhappy with your quirk? want one that's better suited to a career you're interested in? Pay me and I can give it to you. Those with quirks to offer will receive commission ."
Spoiler: Response to garden, bit late He can totally hold more than one Quirk copied at the same time. He alternates Hardening and Explosion from what I remember in the Cavalry Battle.
Spoiler: reply oh, thanks — i was unsure of bnha wiki’s accuracy because the footnotes didn’t actually go anywhere... ok, so in that case he could probably pass on multiple quirks to someone, but i think he might still have to do it one at a time...? like, copy A and B, pass A to C, then pass B to C with a different DNA sample side note, monoma is going to get annoyed by the dna-donation requirement pretty quick, even if he does just use hair
Spoiler: Chapter 211 Monoma backstory good af What in the actual fuck is going on with OFA? Did it go apeshit because it got some PTSD trigger from fighting a one-on-one with a smug power copier in a nice suit? Minor thing probably giving him too much credit but Monoma's first instinct after the wrath of gods OBLITERATES where he was standing is to yell for Shinso He's either thinking he can still beat this or his first concern is for his teammate Guess he was genuine about caring about him. Also is Ochaco finally going to be cool? Please lord, I love Ochaco, give her a thing. Personally hoping for Ochaco, Monoma, and Shinso to somehow subdue this. Bonus points if Mineta and Mina somehow manage to shine too.
Spoiler: Chapter 211 I really think his concern towards shinsou is genuine. I'm interested to see where that goes because it kind of feels like he feels Shinsou is someone he can relate to more easily than examples we've seen so far. curious how shinsou will feel in return. This monologue from Monoma was also Fascinating, and I wonder what it means for all three of them honestly.
Reading through the manga now. Up to chapter 57. And holy FUCK am I all about how Stain was drawn. Like. Christ. Visual references to all sorts of edgelordy shit. Dude had shading and eyes you'd see in shit like the early turtles or in a Spawn comic. There's some panels that make it clear that Horikoshi's probably read The Mask at some point. EVERYTHING about the ending part when Endeavor shows is just. Good. Shit. AND HIS LINES. FDGFH. christ. all might looks so much cooler in the manga too. he's got these thick lines and this sexy ass crosshatching and he looks like he's straight out of a fucking comic. HIS SMILES IN PARTICULAR. FUCK. THAT'S LIKE. FUCK. JUST STRAIGHT UP A JOHN BYRNE SMILE. god. tier. reference. ohhhh and the sound effects on the smashes and some of the other all might and deku shit. HNNNNG. AND THOSE WESTERN STYLED COVERS. OH JESUS.
I called this coming talking to a friend of mine like half a year ago, and he was like "Naaaah, that'd be crazy." WHO'S CRAZY NOW
god I'm insanely behind on the manga and I'm catching up and I've reached this one part where I KNOW what happens and I'm still sitting here going "no no no everything's gonna be fine please let everything be fine" I'm very sad.
this is on the wiki and i'm Spoiler: gif "it's actually hair" is definitely worse than "guy has a bird head with real feathers with no explanation"
The worst part of reading the manga is being a fan of power copiers and the options they bring to the table. Consequently I'm awaiting Monoma doing something cool. It's never going to happen, is it?
"Fumikage's feathers is actually hair" is one of those things I mentally wallpaper over, like 'how does he talk without lips' and 'teeth under a beak is a visually upsetting combination'
Spoiler: Latest chapters Ok so many things I'm interested in For starters, the whole "blank" thing of Monoma - where if your quirk relies on a stored something, Monoma can't use it. It makes sense that Eri's power is a storage one - whatever she was storing was used up in the last "rampage", probably. And that's probably why her horn retracted/decreased! She stores her power in her horn! And this storage actually helps nerf her because otherwise her power is like, jesus christ it is powerful. Second of all, I am SO DOWN for this Meta Liberation arc. I've been wanting to know about this since someone pointed out that they mentioned a dude leading a Liberation Army and that is just, so down for it. So down. I'm hoping this guy proves to be interesting enough to not make me suffer like the Overhaul arc.
Spoiler: chap 222 not surprised by shigaraki's backstory and it definitely indicates we have more to find out.... anyway my theory that shigaraki's bio dad was abusive ... i feel theres some implications within this chapter itself and think im probably right. the original story hori did about the character 'tenko' indicates this as well. glad horikoshi changed his mind about villain profiles and called his previous way of thinking pretentious. Spoiler: shigaraki's age im shocked he's 20, but its also funny i guessed his birthday before. to be fair, his birthday is like. the most obvious birthday one could have considering other puns.
