so i figure erskin can read most of what bel's thinking, when he's in wolf-shape. bel's new to this, his body language would be very open and expressive, erskin's been communicating with wolves and canines since he was literally a baby, and i don't think bel would even be in a frame of mind to want to be reserved and stoic to erskin.

it would be kind of funny if bel thinks he is pondering something to himself and then erskin responds in spoken english.

 

i was thinking maybe some kind of terrier or corgi or something, that started their wanderings like WOW WHAT AN ADVENTURE!!! and has crossed into I DON'T KNOW WHERE I AM AND I THINK A TREE IS GOING TO EAT ME. and is maybe now super muddy and wet and cold and worried.

maybe it's really wary and barky about how big and undoggish bel is, but willing to make friends when bel is patient and reassuring? and seeing something human-shaped could be a big relief too.

 

i think that even with Cool Handwavium Werewolf Talk, getting concepts across to dogs would be kind of a task. communication with dogs to me always seems more like you're making... statements about things. i'm hungry, i'm nice, i'm angry. you should come here. you are in trouble. i have a treat. i have a ball.

like that, you know? there's no 'i will find your people for you' or 'what happened?'

 

yeah, just in general erskin really loves validation but i think in this incarnation especially likes to hear from people that they like him and think he's attractive and fun. he's a charmer, he wants feedback! he's also a lot more able to take a compliment well and just go 'thanks! yay!' instead of trying to deflect it.

 

so i really like the idea that speaking 'small dog', as a werewolf, would feel like going A HURPA DERP FLERPA and honking your rubber clown nose.
