    aaaand i got up again because i hurt too much. whether i will internet all night or go back to bed in 5 minutes depends on the great heroes Heating Pad and Ibuprofen. will they come to my rescue? who knows???

    troof tho, tom hardy with an eyepatch and prosthetic leg would still be tom hardy. :D

    i hadn't realized until i wrote it, but this bel has had all the romanticism worn out of him, or at least buried pretty deep. he's not going to be falling head over heels like teenage!bel or human!bel. a few sweeps of convenience quadrants has him thinking it's all a little bit crap.

    i look forward to him realizing that oh shit feelings. and pancho being super smug about it. :D

    aww. i think erskin isn't particularly romantic in the first place, and in this 'verse i suppose he had to start his social rehabilitation later, more abruptly, and involuntarily. so again his priorities are pretty out of whack.

    i'm toying with the idea that he met some girl who coaxed him into a fling while he was pretty much a feral and had lost all track of time, and the next thing he knows there's drones and spaceships and adults and he's being measured and prodded and shoved around and tested— he wasn't cranky, on the third go-round of the aptitudes, he was flipping his shit.

    ANYWAY yeah i think he's still got a very vague notion of how romance applies to him.

    i think if he had jethro things would have gone differently. maybe jethro can get transferred to this posting? he might actually like it because, lots of parks, decent respect for lowbloods, and time to write.

    jethro would LOVE this posting. so would sigmah. i wonder if sigmah could be brought in like hmm we need some kind of helm-rehabilitation medic but we can't officially requisition one, and bel runs the question past pancho and otherwise looks into it and turns up this indigo who keeps getting in trouble for refusing to do the egregiously cruel procedures.

    bel and jethro are penpals, right? maybe jethro comes to bel all flipping out because sigmah's calmly refused a direct order one too many times and is now in the brig awaiting a dishonorable disembowlment.

    also ok the idea of bel quietly putting together a reading block for himself... that he keeps sort of furtively expanding... that turns into a lending library with a lot of squashy chairs and stuff... sounds really cute to me. he could probably hit up incoming ship crews for buying/bartering more. and invent a little shelving system. and fuss when people put the books back in the wrong place.

    Erskin would bring him everything from bodice-rippers to maintenance repair on a T-80 gigaflux hydrostat. if it had two covers and some pages he would be like 'aha! a Book. better give that to kadros, he'll Shelve It.'

    oh my gosh yes, bel getting this reputation for Likes To Alphabetize -- and it's TRUE is the hilarious thing, he just really loves to organize information. he's going to fix up the wiki too. he'll be like "you guys can have your own joke wiki but the main one is Off Limits Or Else" and 'or else' turns out to be subtly brilliant 'mild' punishments tailored to the individual :D

    do you want to keep playing moment by moment, or should we skip a few days and summarize bel settling in?

    in whatever colors alternian ground troops' battle uniforms are in. i am mainly posting to whine about how i cannot find a single picture of that t-shirt and fatigue pants combo on a real soldier that is close up, recent, and not the stiffly posed dork from the army regulations page. :/

    WHY DID I ONLY GET THIS NOW i swear i've been checking like every 15 minutes.

    i was considering for erskin to have a quiet and unsneaky nap in a boot pile, then be woken up after a bit by someone calling him to let him know HARDCASE IS TRYING TO COMANDEER TWITCH BACK HELP and then erskin will spring into action?

    after the fight is over erskin will probably need to pass out for real, so we could summarize bel settling in while we think up some other disaster for them to work on?
