ok to clarify, erskin is not going to give a fuck if bel kills hardcase, he'd just flip his shit if bel started cutting up hardcase's crew, who he views as victims, not enemies. hence his immediate opposition to the deadman switch, he thought bel was proposing 'if they kill me i want to take 'em all out with me', but even when the proposal is 'it's a good bargaining chip' the scenario for 'i lost the bargain' is still 'everyone blows up'. bel's just going to have to fake it.

also bel would be useless as a hostage because erskin would be like 'ok keep him'. he's known bel all of four days, bel walked into the situation of his own accord, the math wouldn't be hard.

 

also i think erskin's response to bel's heroic declaration of 'it was me or the kid' would be a baffled and exasperated 'it most certainly was not, you could have just refused the invitation, the situation was already stable before you poked your nose in'

perhaps bel still wants to play Big Damn Hero? he's happy to have secretarial work but some part of him is sort of like 'wait this isnt the super exciting service i'm used to' ? subconciously it just doesn't feel right to /not/ be risking his life on sneaky and violent maneuvers against a clear enemy, so he jumped at the chance to go play that out with Hardcase, because it felt like 'real' work. necessary.

 

anyway whatever happens it should be pretty exciting for bel to see erskin be really angry, not just bitter or tired or tetchy or joyfully homicidal.

 

if you want to set up the scene i can play hardcase if you want?

this is lainey's snakemom psybil! she's about as big as a titanoboa and breathes fire. after she and reggie stopped trying to eat each other everyone got along fine. she spends like 80% of her life lazing around under a heat lamp and 10% of her life eating. the other 10% is composed of snooting about, getting stuck in blankets, playing the rare game of tag, and making completely accurate prophecies.

ok, but you're going to have to give me a reason for erskin not to laugh at him and hang up once he lays out that deal. he did warn bel.

 

hmm! well erskin's likely to be distracted for like another half hour? and then how do you suppose he'd hear about what bel's done? who would tell him, etc.

it could be great to have him storming in to yell at bel fresh from a round of macking on his friends, but it also seems more likely that he'd find out about it and deal with it the next evening, when he's had some time to learn everything and think about it.

perhaps bel has two or three hours to feel like everything went well, then erskin summons him to his hive?

 

Yknow what i think now that bel has gone through the initiation yelling-at the rest of the crew is going to be more sympathetic and friendly. A lot of them them have been yelled at for excessive violence and murders too. Also you just sort of feel bad for how confused and upset and angry and guilty someone is after their first aspera-style yelling-at.
