consideration: while whitey might be angling for payment, i would think he'd be really interested in coming over to the sunslammer the minute he saw erskin's reaction to him. like... if he managed to get the very young captain of a substantial carrier ship to accept him as boss, he would be in such a good position for gangster-type activities. maybe murfey could use that obvious line of thought to get whitey there asap, then bel and lainey could chase him off once he's delivered pancho and the medicine.

 

aww, pats. you're pretty sick right now, aren't you? if you want to try getting unstuck we could try and suss out the bit that's no fun/ too hard for you to get through. waiting a few days wouldn't hurt me any, though. i like playing a lot but i do have trouble balancing it with work.,..

Ok i am trying to piece together who knows what. Murfey would know about vaziok's motivations best. Galley would be able to locate heleph, if they were a shipwright. Bel would know generalities, and be able to come up with twisty plots Erskin knows his ship and his political/ financial limitations.

How about-- ok, erskin loathes admiral wavebane so much because the guy is up to his fins in the illegal helmsman trade. He has/oversees his own shipyard. Probably he uses a legit assigned shipyard as a front for his own personal blackmarket pedo-slavery hub. So, let's say he has heleph. In secret, so no rivals would steal/assassinate such a brilliant shipwright. Our heros (bel, maybe?) could piece that info together and then have vazoik go after wavebane on his own. Because: wow, fuck both of them. Let them be each other's headache.

 

Eta: initially it could be cash and the promise of setting up base at the sunslammer to get vaizok there w pancho. Then to get him to go away, galley and bel and murfey all figure out the heleph thing.

 

what iiiiff erskin just sort of bluescreens until lainey gets him outside for hugs and meltdowns, then murfey and bel can be like 'WELL THAT SURE WAS A HORRIFYING THING THAT HAPPENED THAT WE'LL HAVE TO ADDRESS LATER.'

hmmm i can third-person focus on lainey and sketch the broad outlines of the negotiation, probably. lainey's really big on using charm to manipulate, so she'd be capitalizing on vaziok's exploitative interest in erskin immediately. it's a lot more disgusting than the usual sort of flirtation she engages in, but they're all in a really serious situation so there's just no room to be picky.

maybe bel and murfey could kind of sit there like 'wow ok gross, she seriously just used her matesprit as pedo bait without batting an eye' until she comes back in with the mask off and is just absolutely spitting mad.

im trying to think of erskin's public emotional range. he really tries for cheery confidence, and when he can't make it he tries for optimistic determination. sort of, if he has to address bad stuff directly, it's in a problem-solving mode. he's bitter about a lot of stuff, but if it shows he's either light and ironic about it or immediately apologetic. he's always apologetic after a negative outburst, and tries to hurry the conversation on immediately. he definitely has the mindset that no one's supposed to see him be anything but bright and confident and capable, and that it's a huge imposition for him to load his bad feelings on anyone.

bel's definitely seen (provoked) a range of his angry lapses of control, and i think he's caught glimpses of his sorrow and uncertainty. i think erskin isn't very self-controlled, he's just always trying to be? he's passionate, impulsive, and short-sighted, so being the perfect smooth and arrogant warprince isn't a roll he can play well. but damn he's trying.

anyway i think erskin cries somewhere people can see like, once a sweep. helplessness is awful enough for him to show, but to have vulnerability and grief on his display is a total nightmare scenario for him.

Aw, i like it. It's also probably contemptuous/diminuative? Seadwellers want to evoke the power and danger of the sea, even to link it to the depths of space. 'Puddles' is just not very badass!

Funny thought, Itsy is a dainty little elegant prim and prissy snowball... But if she's near-tyrian, it means that she could get hit by a truck and the truck would break. Then she would flip it over and give it a good scolding.

I bet she offends so many gigantic blue hardasses. When she drags patients back to bed, they STAY dragged. When they call her princess it probably means something closer to fuhrer or overlord...
