also what if helmsgirl/buglet ends up being really useful to haul patients around because she's a helms-class psionic, shoving a few big trolls on to a cot is a lot easier than accelerating a million tons of metal up to three times lightspeed.

it's funny how 16 is just a little young for one came thread but tragically itty bitty for another game!

oh btw what if that base commander erskin chewed out (and probably gave a hell of a boner) goes and slavishly gives pancho whatever the hell she wants so she just starts pointing at stuff on troll amazon, and boards the ship with like enough medical supplies to equip a whole new medical block, and five medals of valor— one they don't give to sub-ceruleans— and an extremely generous severance package.

 

speaking of the ridiculous character pile, i wonder if they can forge a connection back to kidsplanet internet, so twitch can go looking for people she used to know. it'd probably help her figure out her identity... aaaand have age-appropriate peers to flirt with. she's 16 on a ship where the next-youngest guy is 26, that's gonna be really awkward when she stops being a trauma kitten.

 

that would be cute! i wonder if the whole 'i've lost so much time to the helm, my friends are old now, i could have lost the rest of my life' is going to really hit her then. being a bit older when you're surrounded by adults has got to have different emotional weight than seeing the friends you remember as little kids be mature, self-assured teens.

btw for twitch's base personality i'm going with a hermione granger-ish 'bossy, authoritative know-it-all, extra fussy over her friends, brave to the point of reckless slaughter when she knows she's right'. the memory/identity problems have rendered her fretful and anxious to please, eager to accept assistance, but her snotty pride's definitely coming back by leaps and bounds. in another quarter-sweep she'll probably be hanging around and driving the grown-ups nuts with how much better she knows than them.

obviously pinkie buglet is a different critter entirely, with a different life ahead of her.

 

sure! it makes things interesting. and if rehabbing helmsmen was as easy as unplugging them, i think a lot more quadrantmates would go for it. right now twitch is probably being 'repaired' on the paperwork— she will end up as a helmsman, if just a fakey auxiliary back-up for galley, though erskin intends to rehome her with a captain he approves of once she hits proper conscription age. as horrifying as helming is under alternian power structure, personally i'd fucking LOVE to stick my body in a closet and go running around the galaxy as a spaceship. so i think there must be some helmsmen out there who genuinely want the job. it's not starship pals but it's not unrelenting horror, maybe?

oh hey she can meet lu! when lu comes by! and they can hit it off! that would be super cute. they could both buzz around in a little clipper ship and show off at galley together.

also thanks for reminding me about the dialysis, twitch has got to be a total pro at it by now.

 

haha i don't know the exact steps of dialysis i gotta go look that up real fast. playing doctor's a lot harder now than when i was 6.
