It's actually only posted a few times since being moderated, and half of those were in places it was allowed to post. I've only wiggled the inappropriate ones, and there are only 3 at this time.
My current take is that it was a bit too prolific at first, hit the profile box enough to make people wig out about it being Spammy, and is now probably calm enough to be a non-issue, but I felt like we needed a poll on this urgent question.
I personally would enjoy psa bot's contributions to the shitpost rave/afterparty but i'm not in charge of either of those. Maybe if it posted like... every couple hours or something?
if i can't be a mod on kintsugi i'll run for mayor of the shitposting rave, perhaps under another name
While both the SPR and the afterparty are very casual and low commitment, and definitely contian occassional shitposting derails, I'd personally prefer if no one let a spam bot loose on a thread people are RPing in, so like.... not in the after party at least please? Honestly I don't really get where the 'contian it in the RP subforum' thing came from in the first place, none of the posts seem particularly like RP and it feels kind of disrespectful of the RP community to consider it a real option to let someone post off-topic-nonsense all over other people's collaborative writing but god forbid they run around doing that in the real forum (/sarcasm)
LET! ROBOTS! BE! MODS! Serious answer: Let it post wherever, but not so frequently. (I second @IvyLB's assertion that it's not really fair to keep it in the RP forum for the very reasons they gave.) (also, why can't we post emoji on here, that first part needed the clap emoji)
I think the assumption was that "is a robot" is not a true thing about the account, Therefore It Is Roleplay, because the "bot" is a character being played.
I assumed the RP thing was because the robot was playing a character. I found it to be spammy myself. I don't want to be all Stop Having Fun, but I also thought the style of the posts allows so little information about who the person is or their intended tone that it's a lot more offputting than funny. That's a personal opinion.
I mean fair, that still doesn't mean that the RP subforum is gay baby jail for your spammers and trolls. If you need a holding cell to sober people out in, build that, don't use people's clubroom that they were using without asking, to use a slightly stilted metaphor.
If we´re walling it off i would be for walling it off in it´s own thread, because we in the wildlands would prefer not to battle it out of our RPs all the time. Basically what ivy said. Yeah. It still needs more containment than "RP subforum as a whole" just beause we´re doing things in there.
So we did science and confirmed that we can make an account show up as "a moderator" without giving access to stuff like the Caring Void threads. Since apparently you people are monsters and, as of this writing, "make the bot a mod" is in the lead by three votes over the next most popular option. If it were snowing, this is about where I just walk out and lie down and wait for the snow to cover me.
Also: while someone may be pressing the post button the posts in question very well could be randomly generated by a bot. Unless there is info I don’t have for all we know this is the case. If this is the case then it is not Rp. Imo just leave it on post mod, walling it off to Rp land would be fucking irritating and possibly more interruptive than leaving it alone.
Like in the spr whatever, I can block the account, but the implication is that it would be free in the whole of the Rp area and that’s just not fucking polite to the rpers. Also can we not imply that most of the Rp here is unorganized, because uh...,
I can't speak for others, but I suppose my impression of forum RP accounts comes almost entirely from the times when actual RP accounts, or at least ones I've believed to be actual ones, drop into non-RP places to participate humorously for a post or several, which I usually enjoy. From where I was standing, this looked like a spammer trying to... I honestly couldn't tell? But my second thought was an RP account behaving in a much more extreme version of the behavior I'm familiar with. As far as I knew, that was an existing RP account. I now realize this was probably incorrect. I think the RP people here have raised a really good point and I agree with them about it given this new information.
Pretty much what Verily said is exactly where my headspace is at. The few times I've poked into the RP subforum I've seen people drop in to do some spontaneous shitposting and people have a chuckle. ...Also I kind of assumed that walling it off in the forum would entail giving it its own thread there, because I swear on my life that I remember that being a power accessible to admins, but I might be criss-crossing my wires or presuming mod action where it hadn't been stated. Oops. No disrespect meant to RPers - I don't RP on Kintsugi, but I have elsewhere. I don't think you deserve to have a bot jump in the middle of your wizard duel to tell you how many different flavors of fruit you can fit in a single milkshake.
