I think my opinion on whether it should be in the RP section (in its own thread, and/or in places it's allowed/deemed appropriate) hinges on whether it's a person RPing as a bot, or an actual bot

Give the bot its own thread in GenChat or smth and let it run rampant there with mod status and no mod powers.
ideas i've had since then: make the bot a mod of its own PSA thread subcontract all future official forum PSAs to the bot
I know you're not serious, but to throw it out there for the sake of argument, a good chunk of people are more than likely gonna wind up blocking this thing. Then people would get upset because forum announcements never reached them, like important ones where the forum is being changed to a 24/7 gaming forum and sold to IGN.
We already have an announcements box built into the forum. Can the bot be incorporated into that? (Insert quote about scientists asking if they can, not if they should)
Personally I find the anncouncement box really annoying and am happy it gets used as rarely as it does.
You can dismiss the announcements, although I'm not sure if you can dismiss the entire box or if you have to dismiss each announcement individually. Also I have no idea if, in the case of dismissing a single announcement, the box reappears when a new announcement is made, or if there is a way to find out if a new announcement is made if you manage to dismiss the entire box. I'd suggest more science, but only if the box itself could be made invisible to the general public for the duration of the science.
You have to dismiss each individually and the box shows back up with a new announcement. I think a thread would be a much better place because people can just ignore the thread and not have it shoved in their faces..
