Could some people have accidentally been banned (like a subforum ban done on request)? That... might explain it?
No. It's not a ban. It's a weird error message showing up in log files that unfortunately is correlated strongly with "someone who knows nothing about computers posted about this once on stackoverflow but their answer was nonsensical". I'm adding some additional debugging stuff, but so far, I actually can't even completely confirm which of three programs is producing the errors, or what the circumstance is when they produce them. It just Sometimes Happens. So: Code: AH01071: Got error 'Primary script unknown\n', referer: https://kintsugi.seebs.net/forums/the-holler-closet.31/ What's making that error message? No one seems to know, or rather, a lot of people say "oh that's caused by X", where X is a thing that has never been on this computer ever. I can't find any documentation on it, and it only happens occasionally. Well, there's more than one. That one looks like it has to do with something to do with styles and ratings: Code: "GET /styles/dark/ratings/index.php" 404 I have no idea what's causing something to think that's a path it could ever access...
Yes, that has been a flaw in HTTP since the 90s, but no one can ever change it because everything's coded for the misspelling. I think I figured out the weird styles/dark thing, and that may be gone, but also that means that wasn't the source of the thing. The other thing I'm noticing is occasional "hey this seems busy maybe it's slow" messages which might indicate that there's just too many users for the toy hardware. :P
They do misspell it, because the misspelling became part of a standard. That's just a possible way to spell that now. Ninja'd... back through time! The best way to get ninja'd.
@seebs where is your content I went to your profile page and clicked the two middle sections, recent activity and postings, and there was nothing there. this does not match approximately any of my memories. do you have any idea what could be going on?
most of seebs' recent posts have been in the void, which may explain it! the replies are invisible to everyone who isnt the OP of the void thread, or a mod.
okay, but usually, there's links for "see all posts by this user" and "see all threads by this user"? and those aren't there. so... that could be an explanation, but there's still a glitch
It's not really a glitch, exactly -- "see all posts" implies "see all posts that would be available to me". It would be a pretty massive security hole if "see all posts" let people bypass forum access rules.
I checked earlier and your posts were entirely empty, now that this ^ has been posted the "see all posts" button is now avilable. So it seems that if there is enough hidden posts to fill up the entire "recent" page the page acts as if you have posted nothing at all ever. Also hi I am also locked out of the general advice page
I can't figure out why some people get the timeouts and others don't. It doesn't appear to be anything specific or identifiable, it just happens sometimes. But I do see what's happening here -- "see all posts" is paginating, so it's grabbing, say, "first 20 posts", and *then* filtering, rather than grabbing the first 20 posts-that-survive-filtering.
it seems very much tied to my account, the timeout. because it happens on every network i connect to under the sun but only on this and a few of my subs. is there anything all of us with the affected accounts have in common?
Yes. They weren't there before. that does seem to be the ultimate cause. I'd take a hack, but if you can actually fix it, that's of course better.
Is this behavior we mostly want changed? I personally find it useful to know if there’s many new posts showing up in threads I’m ignoring, which I can only tell because there’s fewer listed new posts than usual. If these two things are tied together, I wouldn’t say I’d suffer at all if both changed, but all things considered I’d rather they didn’t.
seebs, the default font on kintsugi draws little to no distinction between zero 0 and lowercase letter O o. you're a programmer how can you have been so blasé about this (edit: tone is meant to read as faux Very Serious.)
