Shiny Salamence for a Beautifly.

Guys I give up shinies are too easy to get now.

 

I never had game consoles of any kind growing up, either in-home or handheld, so I had to borrow my first copy of pokemon (Blue) and a Gameboy from a friend. Same with Silver. Ruby I got used, but not until after I had acquired a copy of leaf green and my own GBA (the flip style ones. This one was a special release with old school Nintendo controller decals on it). This... this is where the terror of my Vaporeon that came to be known as Leviathan started.

The look of utter shock and dismay on my huband's face when his Kyogre, that was a good 10 levels higher than Levi, only took a quarter of my HP with thunder was absolutely priceless.

 

Okay, enough. My feelings towards the shiny starter hunt that lasted from 24.12.14 to 11.03.15 are as follows:

I have found a good Mudkip with pretty high IV's all around and I just don't care anymore, I'm keeping him. Inspired by the video linked above, I decided to call him Mike. And shiny starters can get fucked :<

 

@Lizardlicks If you have pretty fast fingers and nothing else to do but skim the GTS.

@Hobo Um, I sort of, forgot I asked you that. Sorry. Since you have some on your team, can you do any Pokes from Diamond/Pearl/Platinum? Or just BW?

 

@Valerie It's cool! I can't RNG on DPP, but if you want a mon that can only be found in platinum or heartgold (only gen4 games I own) I could always transfer it to BW for breeding purposes? Though obviously that means breedable pokes only, I haven't actually gotten that far into platinum yet and it would take ages to learn gen4 RNG since it actually requires resets down to the correct millisecond, iirc, so gen4 legendaries are probably not an option right now.

Edit: Black/White unobtainable pokemon and Black2/White2 unobtainable pokemon. Chances are if it's on those lists and it's not a legendary, I'll be able to transfer it from my gen4 games. I'm pretty sure I have a 6 IV ditto for breeding purposes on white, haha. I've also got a bunch of pokecheck'd shiny starters, if that's the sort of thing you're down for.

Edit2: Also for what it's worth, I'm pretty sure all the mons in my team are actually catchable in BW, since I don't remember transferring them from anything? It's been awhile since I did a playthrough, but I'm pretty sure the gen5 only mons thing is only until you either beat the elite 4 or until later in the game. Can't remember.

 

@Hobo Don't worry, I wouldn't have the gall to ask you for a legendary. Actually, I've always been kind of terrible at team building, because I have many favourites of the same types (blast my very impractical love for grass) so it's hard to figure out a list, but I'm working on it. I'll send you a PM soon, unless you prefer I post here? Also, should I specify a build I'd want? I know fuck-all about competitive battling...

 

@Valerie Whatever works re: posting, I'm not picky! This might be helpful if you're struggling with working out how many things with the same weaknesses you have! I have the same problem with my love of flying types, rocks are a huge downfall and I don't even have something resistant to that stuff on my team lol. But yeah, that site is good for both working out your resistances/weaknesses type wise but also helps with attacks and stuff? Like I've set up my team so that I have at least one of most types of attacks (I think I'm missing poison/steel/fairy/dragon, which I consider acceptable), even if it differs from the usual competitive mons (example: rock polish cranidos in BW usually used stone edge/earthquake/crunch, but I did fire punch instead of EQ because swinub has that + STAB).

You can specify build if you'd like! My stuff is usually just a vague approximation of the builds from Smogon's dex, altered to fit the needs of a playthrough (sort of). Competitive battling is kind of a clusterfuck because builds usually depend on what rules and what tiers/mons are likely to be used, so I don't have a lot of advice if you want mons to battle players, sorry!

i started with pokemon red version, but gold was the first one i actually finished. then came crystal and it was in colour and I COULD PLAY A GIRL and then came SAPPHIRE and IT WAS IN COLOUR and BERRIES and KYOGRE and sapphire is one of my fave editions. lost my old cartridge, tho ::( i took a break after sapphire, and started again with diamond.
i liked platinum because of the distortion world and MOTHERFUCKING GIRATINA

im very passionate about hoenn, hoenn was great. hoenn had kyogre. hoenn had COLOURS. hoenn had BERRIES. and steven stone

as far as the tcg is concerned, i played a lot in the early days. still have a couple of gingerbread boxes full of them. my dad used to play an electric/psychic deck with only first edition cards in it, and it was hands-down ridiculously overpowered. not sure if it could hold up to current decks, though.

i'm pretty damn proud of my dex, which has everything save #720 ::D (still missing some variants, though. should boot up black 2 and get to it, though.)

so at some point i thought, what if the legendaries could link themselves to trainers and channel powers? cue the attunement verse being born
which is heavily based on the games, or, more specifically, my eventual nuzlocke runs in them. the hoenn run is what i'm currently doing in alpha sapphire.
i have SO many ocs in this verse, omg. some are immigrants/expys from my other stories.

and basically the legendaries are a pantheon.

the thing is if you attune, you not only get the bonus of being linked to one of the strongest creatures on the planet, you also have drawbacks. Sapph, for example, can't hear shit because, due to her link to Kyogre, she only hears the sound of the sea. The Regi just plain remove Steven's eyes. Cynthia, linked to Arceus, is suffering from morning sickness without being actually pregnant (referencing the Arceus = God VS Arceus = Houses God thing), and so on.

and while some of the early pokemon movies have a very, very special place in my heart, i stopped watching the anime at some point, heh.

was very stoked, though, when i found the pokemon special manga online (only the first three volumes were translated into german). so happy. (some parts of my attunement verse borrow heavily from it)

my fave type are ghost pokemon, closely followed by dark type. -looks sheepishly at pokemon art academy album-

I really do love Snorlax and I really want to own a gigantic snorlax beanbag of some sort in the future.

Honestly, I never really was "allowed" to buy video games when I was younger, but when my younger brother was growing up they got laxer, so I actually owned a DS, haha. tbh I played most of the older ones on my computer. My first actually owned game to play was Pokemon X, so I'm fairly recent in these regards.

 

@whimsicalobservant : that giratina cosplay is AWESOME :D

 

I love Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team so much. It's something I never really get tired of playing. I'm actually thinking of buying a second cartridge so I can have one to repeat the main quest up to Rayquaza over and over again and one to continue playing after that, since I always end up wanting to restart once it gets a bit slow but at the same time I don't want to lose my progress.

 

All the foxie type pokemons! But especially Zorua and Zoroark because they're just the best. Also the magical girl Eeveelution.

 

I don't like that people call Pokemon like Garbodor and Honedge "unoriginal" or "proof that Nintendo is scraping the bottom of the barrel" when those Pokemon are actually new ideas, while at the same time doting on the latest wolves that are basically recolors of the wolves in every gen.

 

@BPD anon I just tend to throw the concept of Tsukumogami at them. Yknow. Japanese item spirit. Part of the culture.
I like the item spirits, and they take up more recent forms, too, which is actually really cool!

 

Have you played any of the other PMD games? I've played time/gates and I've heard really good things about red/blue, but finding a copy of them these days is a huge pain (I'm also finding it hard to find sky). I love time though, the story is one of the few that actually makes me cry, it's so good and fucking heartbreaking ;3;

 

So is anyone playing the free games that came out on the 3ds shop, because none know my love of rubble world.
