And then I'll be like "ok apparently I need grass types for this trial, I have no grass types, guess I'll grind this Bounsweet some rando NPC traded me a little and then shove her back in the box" and she's still there and I love her and don't talk to me or my fruit daughter ever again

 

...I think I just had a...critical...catch? With a quick ball? It was all super glowy and weird and the ball only shook once before the catch was confirmed

Team Skull is my favorite for many reasons

 

I frickin love Team Skull. They're so ridiculous. I just beat the first trial. And it was weird because I'm used to playing fan games and I felt really underleveled with no one at level 15. But I had no trouble in the trial so... that's really my only complaint so far is that I haven't even almost lost. I could do a Nuzlocke, but that doesn't really increase difficulty so much as just slow down the game because I'm constantly running back to the PC.

 

The difficulty ramps up at the second island, Mallow's trial especially but also the second kahuna, even though I've been several levels above the opponent each time.

Buuuut I've never blacked out yet. Or lost over half my team (one or two at most).

I'm on the third island and everyone is in the high 20s, I've encountered a scripted battle with a single lv30 dugtrio and swept it.

Basically this game was MAJORLY rewritten to be a lot easier than the other games. They are very forgiving here.

 

Siiiigh. I guess that's what I have Reborn for. I understand wanting to have the game be accessible. I'm all for it! But I do wish they had difficulty settings. The fact that most trainers only have one or two pokemon also really hurts the difficulty. I want the major boss battles to be hard--like their own puzzle that you have to figure out their strategy and counter it. Like in Pokemon Colosseum, you soon encountered people who were using pretty sophisticated battle techniques like Defense Curl/Rollout or getting a sneaky setup on the switch.

But my gripes are not to say I'm not enjoying myself. I love the islands, and I'm super curious to see where the story goes. I really love Lillie and Viola has a major crush on her already

Do people here enjoy PvP battles? I mean, by team is currently lv 15 is, but I'd still be up for some battles if you're around the same level or if people want to battle on 6th Gen games.

 

They put baby bumpers on the game definitely (since when has your rival had the Pokemon WEAK to yours?), which I'm personally okay with? But as someone who was playing since near beginning it does seem a little pandering.

Lower level requirements, showing which moves are super effective/non/etc (at least after you've battled it once)...

I will say, trying to trade with friends in friendplaza is SO BOTHERSOME because you gotta sacrifice your firstborn for it, and then SOS battles are a bittersweet thing when trying to catch Pokemon (oh this cubone I tried to catch just called it's fourth friend....guess I gotta KO that one too....)

I'm hanging out on route 2 in the first grass area trying to get a fuckin' smeargle to appear, and from the sounds of it i'm going to be stupidly over leveled whenever I get back to progressing the game, as per usual.

 

i've actually found a couple battles catching me off-guard, and the kahuna battle with Hala almost wiped my whole team :U
but other than that it's been fairly easy, but i don't mind it too much. i've literally been playing these games since i was 3 and could hold a GBA in my chubby toddler hands, i haven't had a particularly difficult time since Colsseum and XD tbh (which are STILL hard, btw. deceptively hard)

ive been taking it slow on purpose and trying to fill out my pokedex. do you know how hard it is to get an espeon to show up?? very hard
that poor eevee struggled itself to death in the end. he didn't deserve that

Pandering is not the word I would use, because it has such negative connotations and like I said, I'm really for greater accessibility in all games. But it does feel to me like they've taken out a lot of the strategy. Or well, strategy beyond just setting up type matchups and leveling. I really like making stall/status focused teams but the battles just aren't long enough to make those sorts of strategies viable. What's the point of setting up a Dragon Dance or swords dance when there's only one or two pokemon in the opposing line up.

 

i guess I'm not so fussed because for me the meat of the game has always been the collecting, and then after it was introduced, breeding. i have more fun post game than anything else.

 

im still resetting to get a shiny rowlet. kill me softly...

 

I really like that it doesn't seem to be as brutally punishing, if only because it fits the atmosphere of the whole game. Aloha is so relaxed and nice ;u;
I also love Hau. He's such a pal.
Hell yeah he picked the weaker type matchup - he's not here to become The Ultimate Champion, he's here to eat Malasada's an make friends :D

 

Ahhhhhh thank you person on the gts for giving me a mareanie! Even with the trick to get one i was having no luck at all

 

I kind of wish I had reason to use z moves...the game is way too forgiving for me to bother trying when I could have my team hold actually useful items for my playthrough.

Like I just got electrium Z and I've seen maybe two people use z crystals against me (Hau and the veteran with the surprisingly hard to beat Absol just outside the observatory) but the rest of the NPC's I either OHKO or they probably don't have z moves to begin with?

I'm playing the game more for plot than I am battling, though, so I guess I'm getting what I want in the end.
