Seconding the new Blair Witch movie being surprisingly okay! Not as raw and atmospheric as the first one, obvs, but much better than the weird straight-to-video sequel that I vaguely remember watching as a teenager (does anyone else remember that?? Did I hallucinate it??) I'm currently going through a lot of horror films of varying quality - tonight I'm gonna try The VVitch, a flick from last year that seems to be about puritans possibly going insane and killing each other?? Or Something In The Woods?? Anyways, will report back. (If there is anything so much as referencing Amporas I'm gonna spit :P)
There was a shitty sequel yes but it aired in theatres. Blair Witch 2 has been decanonized if I recall. There were also some games based on the series too. One was focused on Rustin Parr I believe? And comics probably.
(nearly three hours later) Reporting back on The VVitch! It was surprisingly good! (Apparently it won something at Sundance, so I shouldn't be that surprised, but-) Not that creepy by my j-horror hardened standards, but all the same a very interesting film that made a concerted effort to use the setting and the isolation against the viewer. On the titular, however - Spoiler: plot and ending because I am a dweeb I was really surprised by the fact that they are absolutely playing the Witch theme straight - and these are exactly the kind of witches that innocent women were accused of in the Trials, baby-fat-rubbing, satan worshipping dancing naked and flying 'real' not-nice wild-witch-women. They even fit the hare transformation/familar in! I saw the ending coming, but if it weren't for the despair that struck her first, I would have said that 'if they call me a monster let me be a demon' would have been a more satisfying ending note. Also holy shit I need to find out who played the father there, what a voice!
GUYS LOOK AT THIS TERRIFYING, GENUINELY UPSETTING TRAILER THAT I AM SO HYPE AND FEARFUL FOR this is such a fucked up, amazing trailer. er, warning for implied mind control, racism, and just...unease? im not sure how to warn for this but good god maybe thats why it hit me so hard. idk how the actual film will be but when a trailer is this good in the beginning...whew
well that's fucked RIGHT up. i don't have the nerves for real horror but it sure was a well-crafted trailer.
Hey has anyone seen this? http://brokehorrorfan.com/post/143385316718/production-has-wrapped-on-the-twin-peaks-revival I'm so excited, I love twin peaks! http://brokehorrorfan.com/post/151152702093/angelo-badalamenti-will-return-to-compose-the
I've always had a weakness for the Paranormal Activity films. I really liked the first three, but I feel like number four really dropped the ball - I couldn't watch it all the way through, it was so poor, although I might try some time with a friend and some booze so we can make fun of it but I can still fufill that part of the lore? (Though it seems to only deal with Hunter after he was stolen away?) Anyway, I'm watching PA: The Ghost Dimension after I'd seen the trailer and decided to give it a chance, and it's MUCH better than I expected, despite doing away with the series previous theme of 'nothing is scarier'. It's already had some decent tense moments, and it's giving me some good feels/headcanons about the demon-creature Tobi. (Does the name count as a spoiler??) Spoiler: PA lore, speculation So far - with Hunter and Ponytail Guy being rare exceptions - it seems to only be fatally aggressive towards adult human males. (I'm going to have to watch PA2 again to doublecheck if possessed!Katie murderated her sister and niece, I can't remember.) It'll play around with and scare adult females, but it seems to genuinely like and enjoy the company of children. I know that from the current lore of the series it's associated with witches and gains power through family ties, and it's considered sort of masculine, and referred to with 'he' pronouns? But I'm wondering if that's just because 'demons' are usually default-he in english (particularly american english) and Tobi is actually a kind of reverse-cuckoo creature, like the Other Mother? It gains power by associating with children, particularly female children, and while it clearly Does Not Like adult males and father-figures, it looks after girls and women it considers as belonging to it. I know that from a male perspective it's seen as creepy and grooming-behaviour, but we've seen no evidence that Tobi is looking to impregnate directly any female associated with it. tl;dr - I'm now headcanoning that Tobi was very good friends and a relatively nice if very powerful spirit to witches and other women of power until the Witch Trials happened and it was given reason to have a real deep hatred of (most) men and male figures.
We Want Plates posts pictures of food served in restaurants on things that are not plates. They just posted this bit of primo teeth horror. I don't know how to spell the noise I made when this came up on my feed. The fact that the teeth are obviously not real and one of them is gold might be enough to Riddikulus it for some, YMMV.
Had a hard week, so I decided to treat myself. Went out and bought some snacks and some movies. I now have: The Conjuring, It Follows, and 10 Cloverfield Lane. (Also the new Ghostbusters and Hocus Pocus, but that's for when I get too spooped.) Which movie should I watch first?
How did I not find this thread till now?! Seriously though, I can't offer anything helpful at the moment because oddly I have not seen any of the movies @Wormwitch mentioned, but I can recommend many many other movies and generally talk horror until I'm blue in the face. :D
(double post ohnoez) If anyone is in the mood for some bite-sized horror, check out this playlist of channel identifications from a Spanish TV station. No gore or anything in the ones I've watched so far (maybe by implication, esp. in the third one), just good old-fashioned creepiness.
Hey, speaking of horror manga, I know I've linked this here before but for the newcomers, this tumblr is fucking dope!
