Use a base coat, esp. for greens and such, because it can stain your nail otherwise. Also a top coat if you don't want it to chip really quickly. Some people put glue/tape around their nail so that they can just pull it off afterward instead of having to clean up the stray polish on their skin, but I dunno how well it works. what specifically are you curious about?

this took me until literally a few weeks ago to grasp, but make sure your first layer of polish is completely and totally, yes for reals dry before you layer on a second one. i'm super impatient and i always get bored, but not leaving the layers long enough to dry makes them, just not adhere to your nails as well, i've found? and once you add a new layer on top it kind of re-activates the layer below it if it isn't dry enough, and it can turn into a sticky ridiculous mess.

that's my biggest tip- it sucks but it makes the manicures last so much longer

also, that the prettiest most photogenic nail art designs you've seen in pictures have more to do with practice and cleaning up afterwards, so don't get discouraged. and that the dry nail polish that stuck to your skin usually flakes off on its own after a day.

I'm mostly just experimenting with it, i've never done any nailpolish stuff before, so just basic beginner things really. Whats the best way to get nail polish off?

there's some weird method for removing glitter polish that involves foil? but if you're not using glitter, regular remover is usually enough

So I managed to acquire an Urban Decay lippie and it's not the shade I'd expected (it had seemed like it was gonna be more purple but it's actually more of a super vibrant purble-leaning fuchsia) but HOLY SHIT I LOVE IT. Pics will be taken.

just gonna drop this link here, basically a canadian nail art youtuber named simply nailogical who is very sarcastic, very funny. but also surprisingly informative re: nail art. my friend showed me her stuff and i've basically been marathoning it the past two days, even if you don't really Nail Art, she's funny as shit to listen to, and she posts basically pornographic shots of amazingly sparkly nail polish

I have this xtremely sparkly eyeshadow/body glitter I got from a Walgreens for 99c. It is excellent. Today I put it on my eyelids. It looked rad and sparkly!

But I forgot to take it off before I showered so I got out of the shower and discovered there was glitter ALL over my face, lmao. Luckily the makeup remover wipes took it off nicely. But I'm PRETTY sure I have at least one bit of glitter in my eye.

(I love glitter on my nails and face! I get slightly wiggy about glitter on my hands or .. sometimes on my face! It's a dilemma.)

ooh yay i was hoping there would be a thread like this

i've been lately trying to inch towards wearing makeup and dressing nicer than just jeans+tshirts all the time, and the fact that all my jeans are dying lately means i'm just replacing them with leggings and dresses and tunic-shirts

it's also really forgiving for any weight fluctuations, which i'm also experiencing- i don't feel nearly as awful trying to dress myself when the leggings just stretch, and i'm not fighting to button my jeans closed

i've been focusing a lot on getting in the habit of regularly washing, exfoliating and moisturising, as a sorta prelude habit-forming to wearing makeup. i think, from reading through some of the makeup discussion in this thread, i need to get myself some concealer, tho. i've got eyeliner and lipsticks which i never use because the dark circles are bothering me too much, and i'm not so good with blush that i can fix the 'i look dead' impression i get after i try putting foundation on, so i don't think foundation is gonna be for me just yet. but a bit of concealer and then eyeliner and lipstick or lipgloss- i can manage that at least

I know this is probably a bit much for someone just starting on makeup since I go full tilt on makeup like erryday, but I've been absolutely loving KIKO Milano's Color Correction wheel for concealer. I've actually recently figured out that thelight concealer shade actually works on my skintone and the darker one for mild contouring so the only part of it I don't use is the cream highlighter in the center bc it's not packing the punch I expect from my highlighters (I'm a highlighter junkie, I glow like a twilight sparklepire).
The lavender shade in the CC wheel is absolutely KILLING it at concealing dark circles, i've never looked more awake!!

@IvyLB :o i'll have to have a look out. next time i get paid i'm gonna go into the makeup department at the local department store and make sad noises until someone helps me- it'll be nice to have a certain brand or product to be looking for first.

normally if I'm putting on lipstick I'd also put on eye makeup or something, but here is An Experiment: I read online that you could get a cool effect by putting a light shimmery eyeshadow on over a darker lipstick, and it does look cool! :D

tho I have no idea if the purple is my color..?? help I don't understand color theory
