This is why you learn the languages and then cry because you can't remember who Fingolfin is in this version of the mythos.

Tyelpe is a number theorist who has probably been a case study of Elvish ADHD at least once & Annatar is a contrarian perfectionist with no sense of scale, change my mind

I'm not sure I'd be able to!

I have like, three different version of Tyelpe. ('thearrogantemu's version as filtered by my podficcing,' 'ended up being the one with emotional intelligence in this family,' and 'grumpy and ambitious and not able to show it because the rest of the family ruined it for everyone THANKS DAD/GRANDAD') There will probably end up being more in the future, knowing me.

I'm down with the "having emotional intelligence unlike any of his relatives" thing myself! Also thearrogantemu is a treasure and if I wasn't still daydreaming about podficcing Gifts myself I'd have checked out yours (I don't wanna get influenced).

...the one problem is that I will absolutely pronounce his name "sell-ebb-ream-boar" which... I'm guessing nobody wants to hear that :/ Tolkien had a grand vision of "keh-leh-brim-boar" but my Formal English + Romanized Japanese phonetic pronunciation influences killed it in its sleep

(Ooh, potentially more podfic! I'd definitely be interested in listening to your version if you ever recorded it. While I'm more okay with the sound of my own voice than most, someone else reading it would be delightful (and a little less cringe-inducing.))

I managed to stuff a hard 'c' into my head for Celebrimbor's name... but no one else's. "Selegorm" is an embarrassing mispronunciation. Also, while I'm aware that 'ae' is meant to make an 'ai' sound, I have not managed to stop using 'ay' sounds, so you get Maythros and Mayglin.

Any advice on hosting? I don't know of anywhere to host multimedia besides yt and tumblr, and I'm really done with nonsense from both Verizon and Google at this point.

...oh, shit, when I deleted my blogs, where the fuck did my original compositions go??

--or, well, they're still somewhere on my computer. *searches* Okay, good, they ended up in a folder called original music, which seems reasonably complete. And, wow, I don't even recognize a bunch of these? Like, legit "barely to not at all familiar even when I listen to them." I guess I started recording my compositions... holy fuck, seven years ago. No wonder I don't remember the contents of some of the one-off "turned on the mic and fucked around for a while" type files.

Now that I live in a place with less background noise, I should be able to produce clean copies of the better ones, actually.

I used Dropbox for hosting. The method I used to make a streaming player of Ao3 that linked to a Dropbox file seems to have broken (though that's more likely to be on the player's end than Dropbox's), but otherwise it's fairly easy to share files and folders with Dropbox.

(I also host on Google Drive, and that has some streaming capacity-- but is Google, so.)

the "everyone has too many names" thing is making me imagine the story of the Feanorians as a Russian novel now. The Brothers Feanorov.

well, I started legendariumblogging in my thread in Bottom Serket (18+ link) and while writing up a post about hobbit gender headcanons I realized... hey, some of this is sfw, I could crosspost it.

so, have some gender meta, fresh from page 5 of the thread:

(in the context of an AU where Celebrimbor is alive and married to Sauron during the fall of Númenor)

I don't have much in the way of publishable-quality notes for the AU where Celebrimbor is alive and married to Sauron during the fall of Númenor, unfortunately; there's slightly more information at the link but I couldn't find a clean way to separate it from the 18+ discussion that spawned it. However, the AU itself isn't pornographic; if I wrote it all out it'd probably be T for violence, maybe M for domestic violence (I rate DV higher than other kinds of violence, as a rule). It's just hard to characterize: do I go with a Celebrimbor who's secretly defiant, undermining his lover's plans from the inside; a Celebrimbor who was evil all along and delights in petty cruelty while Tar-Mairon conquers; a Celebrimbor who is shy and hesitant at first but comes to fundamentally agree with Sauron over time? I like the last one, honestly. Give me a radicalization narrative. Although my usual characterization of Celebrimbor isn't compatible with it; I generally believe his moral compass is developed enough by the time he encounters Annatar that he isn't about to roll over for him. This would be a somewhat less confident and much less morally upright character.

I've only just recently got around to reading the Akallabeth, and I am full of feelings about Númenor, and just want to roll around on the floor with them. (I'm especially upset about Tar Palantir. He actually tried to fix things, but it was too late and not enough for the Valar and arrggghh.)

"This being a podfic of These Gifts That You Have Given Me by thearrogantemu on the Archive of Our Own."

Honestly I think I did a pretty good job improvising these words at the beginning but my voice. is so fucking ugly. oh god I sound like that. I just fucking sound like that to everyone I speak to. oh god

This is kind of a long shot but I read a fic on the ao3 and apparently I didn't bookmark it and now I can't find it

so: it was silm fandom. two of the fëanórians were arguing about what exactly the Oath required them to do. one of them, who pretty much had to be maedhros, recounted a story about sauron controlling prisoners through the threat of torture, testing their wills to see how much they could be made to give up for how trivial a relief, and asked the other if they could not at least delay, a little, before... I think doing something to Elwing? the other fëanórian might have been curufin?

the line I most remember is, I think, the last one, or at least the last bit of dialogue: "to be spared this particular torment, at that particular time." unfortunately I've tried a dozen variants and I don't think that line has been indexed.

if it sounds familiar, even if you can't find it, please tell me what you remember?
