crazy AIs, glowy science holes, and a potato (Portal Thread)

Portal is so good, yo. It was one of my first fandoms too... lots of good memories from when I was younger.

I'm sorry I wasn't there for most of that Portal 1 stream that was happening yesterday, but would people be interested if I were to do a Portal 2 stream? If so I'll post about it in the Summer camp thread.

so like my dad comes home one day and is just like "my coworker told me about this thing called the orange box?" and i wasn't really interested in anything inside but oh man portal. to this day i haven't finished it (portal 1 is hard yo) but i still treasure it dearly, and i've replayed portal 2 probably like six or seven times by now. it's just, it's so good!!! it's funny and the puzzles are hard but always interesting, and sometimes it's scary and sometimes it's heartbreaking but it's always so surprisingly deep. i remember playing through portal 2 the first time with my friends on the ps3 and just loosing my mind about caroline and wheatley. and the song!!! and caroline!!! and aaahhhhhh

also, this fic is so good and it broke me a little and i've basically accepted everything as canon. (it's about what happens to chell after the end of portal 2, there's eventual chell/wheatley but it's written very sweetly)

also also have i mentioned how much i love GlaDOS because holy hell i love GlaDOS so much

i came up with a portal/undertale crossover in which instead of testing the portal gun, glados is using the portal gun to test the effects of DT on humans and also on time
chell was picked because ridiculous stubbornness=high DT levels
at the end glados lets chell go because you do not want a hostile time traveller who effectively can't be killed to be in the science facility that is also your body
especially not after encouraging them to get revenge in the process of removing an incompetent usurper

my favourite mental image of that idea, aside from postgame stuff involving frisk and chell meeting, is glados giving the "everybody likes revenge" speech and then just after the boss fight going "oh...crap"
because. hostile time traveller who could reset to at least the beginning of portal 2 and possibly farther back, with every reason, from glados's PoV, to spend however many time loops just kind of...dismantling glados.

I didn't bond with the companion cube at all. I mean... it's a cube with a heart painted on it. Just like all the others that differ only in the lack of a heart painted on it. It was useful, but so were a lot of things, and I never got attached to moving platform #16 which was just as necessary to progress.

Of course, it's later revealed that the Companion Cubes maybe are alive. Or maybe it's just Glados trying to freak you out. Either one is possible given the ridiculous pile of sadism that is Aperture.


Sadly, it seems that Half Life 3 is Not A Thing and we will never get the Gordon Freeman/Chell teamup we deserve.

 

YES, I NAMED HIM LAWRENCE AND I LOVED HIM. I didn't bond with CC largely because I was very spoiled about its fate and because like hell am I caring about what GLaDOS tells me to carry about, but that cube was my friend. I carried him with me almost to GLaDOS, set him down in an area that gets debris dropped on in Portal 2, and roleplayed being sad that he was lost.

 

i bonded with companion cube. also with all the other cubes. and kind of with the turrets too..... idk there's something about all of them that makes me go !!!!!!!!!

 

Oh man the turrets are also all friends. I named all the ones in chamber 16 once.

 

I cried like a bitch the first time I had to kill the companion cube. I bond very easily to inanimate objects and very, very hard. Chell/The Companion Cube is my favorite ship and I occasionally think of porn involving said ship because I Am That Kind Of Person.

 

I always tried not to kill turrets, just knock them over or put them in time out.


Also I ship chell with GlaDOS like the trashshipper I am.
