Writing a character whose vocabulary is several shades more florid than mine and being repeatedly failed by thesauruses when I try to find juicier replacements for things I would say that the character wouldn't. Did you know Merriam-Webster straight-up doesn't have "power-hungry" in their dictionary?
I’m fleshing out a dnd campaign and I’m so bad at names. I need a name for a kingdom, a king, several bartenders, some crowns guards, some city guards, and a player’s in game cousin.
One useful cheat for General Fantasy Names is to write a description of the thing you need to name, and then use some combination of acronym, portmanteau, and general word games to make something out of it that you like the sound of. So, say, if you want to name the river that runs through the capital, "the river that runs through the capital" could yield "River Ritharu" (river that runs) or "River Rattica" (runs through the capital, plus vowels) or "River Lehstre" (last letter of each word in the phrase going backwards).
@Sethrial MacCoill I use this generator for ideas normally!! I either use it as-is or do some tweaking to letter order to make it sound better but it can be a really helpful place to start from, there's a ton of settings to play around with :) eta: this is most useful for things that just Need a Name, Stat like npcs and so on, if you want a Meaningful Name i like tez's idea a lot! using wikipedia and google translate for meaningful names and mushing words together until u get something tasty is good too

I really need to start putting my name on things and writing tutorials and stuff. Last night was the second time in recent memory that someone has sent me a tutorial to something I invented. So far we have a keychain QR code and a T-shirt and fabric paint tunic.
