moana/undertale maui and moana fall into lalolati and find that, while there's the normal monsters, there's also a walled community of friendly person-monsters
I don't think I have the creative chops to write it, but you could totally write a Darker than Black/SCP Foundation crossover that's just the Foundation's file on the Euclid-class SCP that catastrophically broke containment and was reclassified as Keter after it was way too late to get it back under control, and that's where the DtBverse's assorted weirdness comes from. Too bad SCP-201 is already taken.
So I've been playing Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 (again), and am thinking about how cool it would be to do a crossover/AU where the main cast is replaced by the Beta kids and Alternia trolls. I think it works pretty well, they have some broad things in common- interesting characters associated with the western zodiac, apocalyptic scenarios, interpersonal drama, just enough humor to keep the tension down, freaky monsters to fight... The main question is who would take whose role, exactly, and whether the Beta guardians should be involved (and if so, in what capacity) and who should take the place of the protagonist. Has anyone else played this game? Anyone at all?
I played Overclocked, but never actually managed to beat it so I dunno how much help I would be :p (or if devil survivor 2 and devil survivor 2 overclocked are even the same game....)
I have played so much DS2. So much. Although it has been a few years so I'm sort of vague on some of the details....
@Loq overclocked is basically an update of DS2, with an extra storyline and voice acting and stuff. I'm playing through it again now, working on my first time through, but I've played the original version before. @swirlingflight you should try to finish it! It's tough and requires some grinding toward the end, thankfully on replays you can import some of your stuff (like your levels and demon compendium? I think that's it? Not sure)
HA HA YEAH.... SMT games sure are all about that grinding experience. Keeping the compendium is a huge benefit to replay value, right now I'm fairly close to the end and running into the need to grind. Really I should just go for doing a lazy win w/o much social link stuff, and explore stuff more in replays. I'm just so used to linear the plot of Strange Journey is that I hadn't really expected the relative complexity of picking sides and sticking to them that this DS2's got.
They're certainly a grind but they're so good tho. To me anyway. I need to play more of them, I just finished SMT 4- Apocalypse a couple weeks ago. So- should I have one of the Beta kids replace the protagonist and ignore the others? Or introduce the others later? Or have them all at once? I'm worried about that because DS2 doesn't have a very large central cast, I'm not sure if having a larger one would be unbalancing or something.
What Pokemon would your faves be? (Martin was a Pikachu who evolved into Raichu after defeating Badrang; Matthias evolved from Pichu into Pikachu after "defeating" the big fish and into Raichu after the final battle. Cluny's a Nidoking. Veil's a Mimikyu.)
I'm very fond of the designs from inkedaway's poketale au. Only focused on the skelebros and the human, but Spoiler: look at these cuties
(Notably, my fictional crushes are, respectively, 1) a Veteran with a unique sprite but no other unusual features just kinda hanging out in a post-game area who only fights you if you talk to him but has a full team of 6 Pokemon including frigging Reshiram, and 2) some random unassuming trainer on like Route 2 who has nothing but a single level 4 Pidgey but when you come back later he's gone. Much later the local criminal team gets a plot coupon when a mysterious masked figure with like level 70 Liepard and Xurkitree shows up and steals it right in front of you, then vanishes.)
I'll need to get back to you on that, since I still only have a rough sense of the DS2 cast's agendas and all. It'd be easy enough to slot the DS2 characters into a SBURB game, since they seem to mostly live separately until the apocalypse goes down. Trying to fit the Alpha/Beta kids requires changing their backgrounds in interesting ways.
Voltron Stuck of the Fusion Variety. (I came up with this before season two.) Okay, in this crossover the reason Zarkon left the paladins and went off to become emperor is because the Alteans were being diplomatic with the Alternian Empire. Zarkon knew or sensed that Something Was Not Right about HIC, Alfor didn't see it. Boom, Alteans are destroyed and Zarkon spends the next ten thousand years trying to keep the Alternian Empire at bay. (Not that he's the hero of the piece, he's still a tyrannical sack of dicks.) At some point he captures the paladins and the princess and tries to explain all of this to the Paladins, who greet this with varying levels of skepticism. Eventually, though the Paladins end up working with Zarkon, because the Alternians are just that much worse. The paladins however, a much better at finding a Troll resistance than Zarkon, and eventually team up with Karkat and his merry band of revolutionaries. I am not sure how the the Beta/Alpha kids would fit in, but I don't want them to be replacements for the actual paladins. :\ Someone who is not me should write this so I can read it.
The kids could be from a human colony that's joined forces with the troll resistance, though that would require adjustment of voltron canon. Or maybe they were abducted by Alternia and the resistance broke them out?
Or abducted by the Galra, similar to Shiro. The Galra seem more fond of enslaving other sentient species than Alternia, which seems to mostly just kill them.
Question. If I went with the "DS2 cast plays Sburb" option instead of the original idea I had, what do I do about the fact that not all of them have a relative we know anything about? I mean, Airi, Otome and Yamato have one each, but the rest of the cast doesn't. Could I ignore that, and if a scratch occurs, just shuffle the cast around? Or just ensure a scratch isn't necessary?
