I've actually been invited to a New Year's party for the first time ever! But I'm still debating whether I'm going or not - I feel sick as hell due to shark week and might be better off just doing the same as I did last year, which is sitting in the back yard naked drinking whiskey, watching the fireworks, and concentrating hard on good vibes for the next year.
Eh, well, the bright side is that when you've hit rock bottom the only direction you can go in is up, right?
I was wondering what kind of New Year's traditions you guys have! Here's a couple of popular ones in Brazil: Dress all in white, symbolizing a fresh start Eat a bowl of lentils, symbolizing material abundance and monetary gain (because lentils are shaped like little coins!) If on the beach, jump over the crest of 7 waves in a row. I'm not sure what exactly this is supposed to do for the quality of your year, but it's a lot of fun.
Our family tradition is everyone gets together, drinks a lot, and then we all toast with champagne at midnight.
My family just watch the countdown on TV. I think I'm gonna buy some alcohol. I'm not allowed to start fires where I live but I'm gonna find somewhere to burn my calendar.
I am doubly prohibited from reacreational boozing now (THANKS BODY AND BRAIN YOU'RE GREAT) so me and the husband (!!) are probably gonna be blobs and not do much of anything. Woo.
@wixbloom eating black eyed peas and collards on New Years Day is a big one in the southern US - I pass two or three billboards advertising restaurants open Jan 1 that serve that on my commute. It's for wealth, I'm pretty sure. And cornbread for luck! That's really the only one I can think of off the top of my head.
on a serious note, im hoping 2017 will be better but am Very Worried. also i'll probably spend new years like i usually do, at my parents dinner party where im the only one bellow age 65, wishing someone had invited me to a party :/
We've got reservations for a Fancy Dinner, and then when we get back from Fancy Dinner, we are going to get absolutely trashed on watermelon vodka and midori, probably. Fuck 2016.
It's hard to pin down what's new year's traditions and what's birthday traditions in my family, lmao. Fireworks are the biggest thing, I get very grumpy without them. (And we had a crap attempt at seeing the big city fireworks this year. #2016 explained?)
I'm probably just gonna curl up with my dog, some junk food, and a bunch of my favorite Disney movies for New Year's. maybe invite my best friend over, too.
like, for dinner? at midnight? or on new years day? we eat 12 grapes at midnight, one for each ring of the bells. no clue what for... same (ish) :/
me, my boyfriend, my best friend, and a friend of hers are all gonna have sushi and drink a fuckton of cider.
I'm going to stay up until exactly midnight, go to bed and wake up regretting it the next day, probably.
I'm going to a house party! I shall get totally wankered on prosecco with my bff, shout rude things about 2016 and play board games. A tradition in my parents' house is to open the back door at midnight to let the old year out, and open the front door to let the new year in.
