Spoiler: Joseph best ending / secret ending A lot of people thought the creepy secret ending WAS Joseph's best ending, but it's looking like nobody has Joseph's best ending because of the Walk Mary Home glitch. Because the glitch always triggers when you're on what looks like the best Joseph ending route, people think it's messing up the flags for that ending somehow. But the spooky 'secret' ending was found while people were digging through game files trying to figure out how to get Joseph's best ending so there was a bit of confusion. I thought it was funny, but some people got mad on the Steam discussion board about how disrespectful it was or something, bluh bluh can't ever show gay/bi people being evil. Apparently someone on the art team has been saying it was was barebones starter stuff for a Halloween DLC? But that came out second-hand so whether it's true or not -shrug-
I accidentally S-ranked all Knife Dad's dates and got his best ending first time on my blind run (aka I just picked the options I liked) and idk man, using multiple irony layers and jokes about being dangerous to push people away to protect the gooey marshmallow inside? Too relatable. Also romanced Damian and Hugo successfully. Both precious.
Spoiler: lorge pictue The artist for this game is so sweet and her art's so good, I'm really glad they got her on board with it.
I was gonna shoot for Mat on my first run through but then Craig happened... I did not expect to like Craig as much as I did. But I am forever a sucker for the old friends-to-lovers trope, and Craig is just so sincere in trying so hard, I want to cuddle him and remind him he's A Good always.
Spoiler: mat date 2 and also amanda silliness Spoiler: no really spoiler oregano sure shows up a lot in this game it is neither a salad nor a pot
I'm having trouble with this game because when I think of dads, I first think of MY dad, which in the context of a dating sim is pretty disturbing to me.
Sees the stuff about getting knife dads best ending: hah, I played another game that did that and suspected it would be the case
If I'm gonna play this, I need to design a dadsona that's as far from being even slightly similar to my dad as possible. Difficult, because dad mannerisms are universal.
The secret ending discourse is making me think of the Something*Positive arc where Spoiler: offensive Jason and Davan write an intentionally offensive play in which the villain is "a gay minister. That way we can parody both the overly sappy religious plays and the ones which paint gays as flawless superhumans who more strongly resemble a new incarnation of the Noble Savage rather than real people. Make him kick a lot of puppies [...] Now how's this for a song; 'God Wants More Animal Testing'?"
I am going to draw so much art of Robert and Joseph. So much. I may even write fic! I don't know why they've captured me so, but fuck they *have*....
I kind of wish you could hook the other dads up? It feels so... idk selfish? Your insert character gets to have this great epilogue where he's happy and content with his new bf and great kid but the other dads will always just languish in the limbo of could have been and I want them all to have happy endings ;_;
Spoiler: Damien and Joseph routes I haven't actually played the Joseph route yet, but I did jut finish Damien's (!!!). I know there seems to be a lot of apparent hate for Mary because (of a possibly bugged flag?) she cockblocks the Joseph ending, but I feel wildly uncomfortable that people are so damn enthusiastic to break up a married couple and throw the shade on it being her fault, and talking about how much they hate Mary after getting this side of her (kind of silly, loves the dogs she looks after, snarky but otherwise good natured). After playing through Damien's route it seems like Joseph and Mary just have a lot of unresolved issues with each other and tbh (were this a real situation) I would be encouraging them to get professional relationship counseling rather than trying to break them up through force. They're definitely deeply unhappy with whatever their current relationship is, and hey, it might be that they can't resolve them by staying together! But it would go much better for everyone to talk it over like adults and come to some kind of understanding than for everything to end in crash.
Spoiler: joseph route Yeah, currently Joseph's good end is bugged because it resets a flag you need to achieve it (walking Mary home from the bar) after the second date with him. Some people are getting the good ending pinup and achieve without getting the ending itself because of that flagging issue and it sucks hardcore. It makes me sad because Mary outside of her marraige is a darling, and so is Joseph, but you stick them in a room together and it all goes to shit. I dunno what the ideal way to fix it would be, either counseling or divorce, but I like both of them a lot. :(
Spoiler: Robert route and Mary I saw someone on the steam forums complaining about how Mary is portrayed as an ugly whore who only exists for you to hate for being in your way, and they cited Roberts route and said Damien's was her only redemption and I'm just... did we play the same game? They talked about how once you get her to leave you and Robert alone she finds some young guys to 'play' with. I haven't done Joseph's route yet, I don't want to until it's fixed, but I have been spoiled that he's the one who fucks around and it's explicitly mentioned that Mary has never cheated. (May also be the first bar scene where you can sleep with Robert, before the grill. I missed that and forked off my playthroughs from the first dadbook screen.) All the guys she's with are described as being uncomfortable because she's fucking with them. How can someone play through Robert's route, get a good end, and not see this? Your second date is all about bullshitting for lulz! That's what he and Mary have in common, other than being able to match each other drink for drink. But nooo, Mary is clearly a hag whose attempts to dive headfirst in guys' pants is what makes them uncomfortable and the gay guys who worked on the game are misogynists, not that she's making up stories about growing up with a serial killer for a sibling or something for laughs. Mary speaks to me, as someone who's gotten a kick out of making people uncomfortable because fuck it, I do it anyway may as well do it on purpose.
