yeah there's a lot of... hm. i mean i like winry and ed as characters. i also have the rose tinted glasses cuz it was my first ship in any fandom haha. nostalgia factor hits me for it
I always treated the hitting-with-wrench stuff as not actually happening, or maybe playful threatening, given that iirc that those are the only injuries that vanish instantly while stuff that would be less serious than an actual wrench to the head lingers and is important, but ymmv.
yeah i also have the rose tinted goggles... i think it's a pretty common trope and i don't take it seriously? i mean obvs it's not a model for a good behavior in a non-fiction relationship but :/ shrug? she does do it less as the books go on but that might be mainly ed getting better at not wreaking himself
Eh, part of it might be that I only ever got up to about book 10 of the manga, and I only started reading it after I'd seen both animes. So my perception of the hitting-with-a-wrench stuff is formed by how the animes treated it (which is "that's definitely an Actual Thing that just happened", and also awkward laughing it off; Ed's not put down for the count, but there is usually at least one instance of Al going "oh no, brother, don't die" and trying to shove Ed's spirit back inside after Ed's been clobbered; Ed and Al both express what comes across as genuine fear over how Winry's going to react when she finds out that Ed wrecked his arm again.)
yeah i will admit the manga version felt a lot more lighthearted about it. hm. /shrug i don't even know anymore it's been forever
Hey thread, if I skip the original series and just watch brotherhood will I be confused? I’ve heard it’s much better than the original but also references events from it
No, you don't need to watch the original. The beginning of Brotherhood is a bit fast in terms of presentation and pacing because the assumption at the time was that everyone had watched the original series and so knew the backstory already, but all that backstory does show up in Brotherhood and so in terms of actual material Brotherhood is self-contained.
You won't miss much, brotherhood stays closer to the original manga and the original starts doing whatever the hell it wants about halfway through Edit: ninjad. Also iirc conquerer de shamballa is the movie ending for fma original if you want to watch anyways
I always get too into things I’m watching to liveblog properly, but I’ll try to post some reactions :D
Less than 10 minutes in and shortboy has spent more than half his screentime bitching about being called short. All my expectations are being fulfilled.
now THATS what I call a tragic backstory Also, I love every character and I love how fluidly ed and al fought together in the first episode. They always knew where the other one was going to be and what they would be doing. They have the kind of bond that has become nearly psychic through sheer practice and amount of time spent together and I fucking love it. Also their dramatic entrances are on point
Why the hell did the government let glasses man keep his daughter after what he did to her! What the fuck!! Why did they not take her away immediately!!! Why did she not go live with Ed and Al or possibly one of the other state alchemists and slowly heal and become adopted by them as a third sibling who also has humanity issues and they all mutually heal and emotionally support each other and become a weird but beautiful little semi-found family and maybe in the future they would find a way to cure her and then she would have to deal with not being two beings any more and it would be a whole other new healing process which they would also support her through!!! She was a girl and her dog who loved each other very much I am crying!!!!!!!
Also hey apparently everyone has horrible trauma from participating in a genocide so that’s very nice
Okay look, there are two episodes that every FMA fan has to sit through and cry about, (and watch twice if you watch the original and then brotherhood like i did), and that was one of them I'm not saying the other one ;P Good luck
