I DID THE DUMB and downloaded the free 6 hour trialdemo of DAI and now I want the whole game even though it's stupid expensive what is budget what is selfcontrol :(
Holy shit the demo is six hours? Wow. Also you might get lucky and find a cheap used copy? I found one for like 25 dollars and bought it on the spot because omg wow how is it so cheap. In other news the Forbidden Oasis bums me out super hard because I have A LOT of fun in the area. But the fucking framerate drop that happens is maddening. I've done a few quests and I had a lot of fun but jesus christ the game just suddenly becomes unplayable until I fast travel out of the place. And I am sad. So sad. Saoirse will just have to go back to Haven sadly and try to avoid mother whatsherface.
Finished the main part of DA:O. Now I just need to get through Awakening and do Witch Hunt again. Hopefully I won't burn out on the series again before then. I hyperfocused on it for a few days so now my interest is slowing down.
demo is apparently the actual game itself but with some areas blocked off and limited to six hours of playtime. also it apparently counts character creation against the six hours. it's enough to get well into the hinterlands stuff but probably not enough to finish it all. and it's like, I can probably be string and resist buying it, especially at the ridiculous price they want for the game and all the DLC, but damn. not having anything new and interesting to do while depressed and bored is frustrating. but probably kind of off the topic here, heh.
you can probably buy it used for cheap, and the only dlc that's really required is Trespasser (because that's... the end of the game, basically). it might take a bit of digging around, but its worth it, i think - ive wasted about... 500 hours in the game? my main PT is 15o hours, at least. ETC: Arghhh i can't make mods work >( i want modded hair and i want to make a custom complexion for Idrilla but i keep getting black screen freezed.
@witchknights Make sure you're using the latest version of the Mod Manager. You can get the DAI Tools Suite Loader here and it will always keep you up to date on the Mod Manager. @littlepinkbeast DAI goes on sale on a fairly regular basis - last time it was on sale it was 50% off. Still kinda spendy, but a lot better than 60$. (The deluxe version is more, but you don't really get anything worth having for that extra money.) And Trespasser is definitely a must-have, but it'll also go on sale eventually. @Lazarae If you start feeling burned out by Awakening, I strongly recommend skipping it entirely. It's easily the weakest part of the game, with kind of awful writing. You miss a little bit of context for DA2, and that's it. You can fix decisions in the Dragon Age Keep if/when you move on to DAI.
@Lazarae I'm seconding @Mercury here and saying that if you want to skip Awakening, you can. I love it, but it's not as relevant. I think I was using a mod that wasn't compatible with Trespasser/Patch 10, because I disabled a bunch of stuff and now it works! Spoiler now to look into making the ~complexion~ and also see if i can find the god damn new armors
Yeah, I keep considering skipping it but I never finished it when I got it. So I want to go through it at least once.
Did some tweaks on Idrilla, not sure what i think. besides that i HATE how makeup works in the game, of course. Spoiler I think now she has Lis's mouth, maybe her eyes as well??? ughhh in other news, Marlon keeps poking me and asking why am I playing The Sims Medieval. he thinks he's funny.
@witchknights There's a makeup mod that alters the shape of the eyeliner and eyeshadow, with a bunch of different options. Of course, it means some NPCs are going to have their makeup game upped - Lord Seeker Lucius with winged eyeliner is kind of hilarious.
I heard they aren't working with Trespasser/BE, so I didn't look at any - other than that, i think it's hard to find the right colors. everything looks weird in the cc eta: poor lord seeker, he just wanted to feel pretty!
@witchknights Makeup mostly works in BE; I think it crashes the game for human males and qunari males, still, for reasons no one can yet figure out. However, for everyone else it works. (Complexion mods otoh always crash the Mirror; if I have to change an Inq's face who has a custom complexion, I have to re-merge with an empty mod folder, do the changes, and then re-merge my mods. Pain the ass.) Also: Good news for people who don't yet have but want Inquisition! A Game of the Year edition is coming out on October 6 that has ALL DLC - which means, eventually, it will be on sale for what is probably a lot less than the rest of us paid. :') (Not that I mind having paid full price. I was able to afford it at the time and it's easily one of my most favorite games, so I'm happy to have added to its success so there could be a GotY edition.)
Oh, thank the holy fuck, i am downloading that makeup fix as i type this because no one deserves how vanilla looks like. i'm doing all the changes i want in the mirror now before i start messing with complexions, but i really wanna make one for idrilla (if i can wrestle the mod maker into submission, that is) with improved freckles and pores and some wrinking/birth marks/sunburn. I really like the one she uses (the seventh one) but with darker skintones her freckles are just barely there, so...
Yeah, the freckles really disappear on the darker skintones :/ Apparently complexions work in Trespasser so long as you don't touch the specular map? It might just be companions this is true for and complexions are still being recalcitrant, but I'm remaking the ones I've made juuuust in case. (Which is annoying; the shine is WAY overboard in DAI. Some is necessary to keep the characters from looking plasticky, but they look damn near oiled.)
@Lazarae the daimodder tumblr is really good for finding complexion mods (link to their complexion mod tag)! And here's the makeup mod.
the shine really bothers me because irl i have combo skin and i'm always reaching for the face powder. i hate shiny. i love everything as matte as possible. like honestly i just wanna sell some people in this game some oil control skincare please can i just. gently. apply some powder to their faces. the fact that it's really not consistent with lightning also bugs me a lot.
SAME. If it were consistent it would be one thing, but that they're greasy in one shot and then matte in others and matte in gameplay (unless they're in rain in which case they might as well be LACQUERED) is just. Fantastically annoying.
the storm coast is a damn miracle of nature, i've never seen oily rain anywhere but there. Sometimes they keep getting shiny/matte like a strobe light if you watch them using flycam. annnnnnnoooyyiiiinngggg
And let's not even get into the fucking lip gloss. What the hell is wrong with the Frostbite engine that everything is so oily??
