Spoiler: kind of petty nitpick As a long term owner of birbs, Startled birds actually slim down *rather dramatically* when startled. Puffing up is either a comfort thing or an *active intimidation tactic*, in which case it will also involve the wings flaring out in a threat display. But loud noise startling? Your bird is suddenly half the volume it was before that.
I'm sorry. I was reacting on the jumping mechanic/hair lifting on humans thing and tossed feather sinto the mix, since his hair is lifted as well. My bad.
