my favourites from Inktober this year! the tragic outdating of my tablet a couple years ago has had one silver lining - getting back into ink-and-paper has been a fun challenge Spoiler: Tranquil there's an episode of Sawbones all about medieval corpse medicine, and apparently they used to think that the moss that grew on a human skull could cure headaches Spoiler: Roasted four & twenty blackbirds baked into a pie Spoiler: Precious & Star a Goblin
did a style challenge! initially was going to be five styles + my own, but Burnout Is A Bitch, so i did.... 4 styles + my own for a total of 5 Spoiler: the rest of 'em Spoiler: detail shots of my style Just Because
Actually, now that my tumblr gallery is dead, I'm gonna just do a quick art dump. edit edit - pictures embedded now. Spoiler: This is my main player character right now, Mehrafarina. I will never shut up about Mehrafarina. Spoiler: CW - Frontal non-sexual nudity, a lot of scars. Mehra is the front line fighter of her party. Spoiler: This is my new girl, Nethryvari. Tiefling... brraaaawleeer.... Sorcerer. Thing. She's just the cutest. Spoiler: A warm up I recently did of Hyrax's Gaius and my Neth Spoiler: Our Magi-Psychopomp from my thursday campaign (the one with Gaius), Broken Iron. Spoiler: A safe for work crop of a bigger picture that I'm... much less happy with now, like 3 months removed, but I was happy with it at the time. This was right before I got to focusing on lighting more. Spoiler: Experimenting with a style cribbed from, I think, the nes LoZ instructional manual Spoiler: CW - boobs and blood. This is the oldest thing I have that I'm really proud of. Actually looking at it now, I really want to repaint it.

My cousin's son really likes butterflies and he's having a horrible time starting school, so I painted him one as a sort of comfort thing
oh my god, that's pretty. The way you like, very gently dappled in the gold coming out from the center is really nice.
Thanks! I wanted to make it pretty and sparkly, but also as realistic as I could manage because I know that if someone gave me an animal picture at that age and it was inaccurate I'd have gone ballistic
Spoiler: requesting critique; spoilered bc Large so...every time I look at this I'm not super happy with it. I know part of it is that I'm not happy with how stiff it looks, and I'm not exactly thrilled with proportions either, but idk....like....what exactly is off there or making it look stiff or how to fix things. also not sure if that's all I'm picking up on that's somehow off. so. uh. I dunno. help? what's off and how's it off and any suggestions on how do fix I guess... also, I hate feet, please help, shoes are the worst, what do
1.) Proportions - My only critique is that the parallel lines of the arms and torso make the section from hip to shoulder seem kinda gangly and maybe straight up too long, so I'm inclined to suggest shrinking the torso and making the arms appear more bent. 2.) Feet - So, with boots, I tend to try and stress a specific type of boot, but the biggest thing I find that helps a flat looking shoe is accentuate some parts of the shoe. An extra flap of leather that secures the hell or a strap and buckle over the top of the boots, seams in general 3.) Other - This is 1000% a thing you'd have to tweak and play with, but I'd make the eye(s?) smaller, more center set and maybe some stress lines around the eyes somewhere to give it a little depth. THAT SAID, that's my style, and not really applicable given your style. Still, something I thought I'd suggest to fool around with. Otherwise, I think this is a pretty solid piece. If you decide to set it in a place as opposed to a sort of white matrix space, I'd say set some shadows against it, but otherwise, I think you're doing good. Being frustrated is your brain trying to figure out where to press next to make a break through. Keep working! you're doing great!
so the proportional stuff was SUPER helpful, I like the way the body looks much better now, and the shoes have seams and a (decorative) buckle on them now, and I'm thinking of maybe trying to give them....a slouchier look, if that makes any sense. so that was all really helpful :D I made the eyes smaller, but can you say if you mean moving them up more or like, more towards the bridge of the nose with more center set, and also do you have any like....tutorial links on drawing stress lines or such? cause I'm never very good at those so I've sort of taken to just. leaving them out, and all the eye tutorials I can find are just about, like, "here's how you do eye shape and shade the iris" and...I already have that stuff figured out for myself. I am gonna set it in a place! I just....I was really frustrated with how it was looking and I didn't want to work on background or anything when I didn't like how it was going. but now I actually do, so I'm working on a background, tyvm :D
I don't have any tutorials atm, I'm mostly just... 10,000 hours of practice. Or. Whatever the phrase is. I just finished a chunky thing so I wanna give my wrist a break, but I'd be happy to do a tutorial on how I draw.
that's fair. if you could do a tutorial on it, when you have a minute, that'd be really awesome!! thank c:
I made a pit'cher for Hyrax for the holidays! Spoiler: And isn't it such a happy pit'cher? (cw - blood, depiction of violence and fire.)
