Oh hey, I draw things. This is something I'm really proud of that I made recently: Spoiler: it's a tentacle alien and a giant velvet worm basically I was doing a color palette meme and two people suggested the same palette for Admiral ZEX and my random furry character that I drew a while ago and so now there is a picture of both of them being kawaii.
@itsAlana Oh my god, velvet worm! *flails* #i am so happy that someone else knows about velvet worms #they are my favorite phylum #and that is a damn cute one #why can't i like posts multiple times???
Velvet worms are the best hands down they are mega cute and their legs are so stumpy and their goospitters so kawaii and i love their dumb round toothy maws and ugh. Have you ever read Bogleech's biology post on them? It's how I learned about them and it's so great.
A few months ago, I set myself a challenge, to come up with a bunch of simple yet clear symbols to represent aspects of existence and magic for my story setting. The rules I set for myself: each image would be a composite of three strokes; one main and two minor. The main stroke would start with a curl/spiral, and could also end in one if I liked. The minor strokes could be straight or curved but could not spiral, and they could touch the main stroke or each other---but they both had to do the same basic thing. If one touched, both touched, and if one curved, both curved. I also tried to make them stylized depictions of real things. Spoiler: Here's ones I've kept and some I didn't, from a late time in the process when I worked them out on graph paper to keep the sizing consistent. They aren't exactly symbols for the set of seven deities I mentioned earlier in this thread, as those deities are very extreme and inhuman, super focused on one particular moral axis each. Instead, these are symbols for organizations (and sorts of people) that venerate certain groups of deities to opposition to some of the others. Spoiler: The 14 symbols for deities/domains that I really like so far For example, the upper right symbol depicts a storm, or a lightning bolt (or a question mark). It's the mark of inspiration, cataclysm, sudden destructive change and creativity. It's a relatively healthy mix of Developer's caring, Defier's demands for liberty, and Devourer's consumption. It's the need to experience and consume and create that strikes poets and inventors. It doesn't play well with the rigid structures (what everybody knows you should do) that Definer, Decider, and Defend tend to make. Another would be the serpent of the second row, on the left. The secondary marks make fangs, because the focus of this symbol is the venom. This is a collaboration between led by Defier's liberty, supported Destroyer's sense of what is taboo, and Decider's hierarchy. This is the reminder that one big bully can be taken down by a group with spears, that an abusive ruler can be taken down by a young servant girl adding poison to the morning tea. It's hope for those who have little power, and a reminder to those with power to not abuse it, lest they invite retribution. The hierarchy does not easily change, but an individual is never perfectly secure. It stands in opposition to blind loyalty, to the expectation that respect means obedience to those who neglect their responsibilities. I'm still testing whether a few of these make sense as intended. Each is supposed to be a set of three deities in opposition to a fourth, and since I usually arrange the seven in a circle reminscient of the DnD alignments, certain ones neighbor and have more in common than others. With significant borrowing from the Moral Foundations Theory... Defender is loyalty and protection and tribalism, in-group vs out-group. Definer is fairness and proportionality and analysis, debt systems and guilt and gratitude. Decider is authority and respect and deference, hierarchy systems. Devourer is self-interest and survival and desires. Destroyer is sanctity and disgust and taboo, purifying methods (by any means). Defier is liberty and reactance and groups coming together in anger against oppression. Developer is caring and compassion and kindness, assisting growth. For what it's worth, these abstract ideals are probably not what the characters of the world think of as their gods (except for abstract theologians and philosophers). Instead, they probably worship the facets of the gods they show in these cooperations.
Wow I really like those :O The storm one in particular really catches my eye. Dropping my convention funding commissions post in thread real quick, discount of 10% for kintsugi peeps c: I'm very tired so I'll probably make a proper fancy one later, but yeah. If you would like some art from me, hit me up yo
Work in progress shot of a portrait I'm making in honor of the late Christopher Lee. The crown is borrowed from a painting of Charlemagne (hopefully it will look a bit less like bread by the time I'm done with it).
It does for me too! I think it's because it's very vivid and dynamic, with the sharp angles and bigger swirl. Helps that it's not exactly symmetrical.
Spoiler: aradia grub climbing a thing and having a nap. About 35 frames, and an hours worth of animation. Need to work on quick visual consistency.
