It might help if Red Topaz says something that the Pearls refute? Because the main issue here is that Pinfire is both cynical and fatalistic so she doesn't see how escaping is at all something that can happen. She thinks the Pearls are overly idealistic and naive and that Tourmaline is just going taking advantage of that, as well. Plus there's the general after being in a horrible situation for so long you lose sight that anything else is possible, mindset thing.

Yeah. The gem was "coral" but it has to be a pearl.
red could very well work!!
