Forgot to mention my favorite bit of Sunless Sea! In Fallen London, Insatiable Hunger or whatever it's called is a result of interactions with Mr. Eaten, right? Interactions not remembered. Memories lost. Scratches from the Starvling Cat, etc. In Sunless Sea, it's a result of cannibalism. Which in fine maritime horror tradition, is in full force - you can, for example, eat a non-officer crew member if your ship is stranded without food, although it'll make you go slower. Somewhere in the Neath, there's a church dedicated to eating human flesh as part of the sacrements. Stuff like that. I got a little Hunger with my first captain, Kitty, but only because she went to the port city at the mouth of the river up the Elder Continent and participated in funerary rituals with permission of friends and family of the dead, so it's hardly the most immoral thing she's done.
ok so ambitions how important are the favoured traits bc i'm pretty focused around watchful/persuasive at the moment but i'm not too fond of the cardgame thing meanwhile, nemesis sounds like fun but i am not dangerous in the least is there a benefit to starting early or can i just as well wait forever before choosing an ambition? oh wait nvm the cardgame says i can bet my soul
....is that a thing. having a filled out map is so nice, and I died so much that none of the other inheritance options were any good. if that's a thing, then I dunno what I'm going to do instead
Choose early. Ambitions take a long time to finish, there's not actually a completed Ambition arc yet iirc? But the steps scale, so you can do the early stuff early. Pick whatever ambition you LIKE best. You can always change your focus later if you've got to.
I mean, if the pre-filled-out map is more important to you then sure, just know that it does make stat-grinding slower. What I did was make sure to get started on the Neathbow quest early, because at each stage you get a decent payout, and also hurry to get my first point of Unaccountably Peckish because for some reason you can't resort to cannibalism in times of starvation if you've never done it before. There are certain permanent rewards that, once you've done them, you will always start each game with a bonus you don't need to use the inheritance on- I think finishing Hunter's Keep in a particular way is one of those things. Also the Avid Horizon, though I haven't managed to finish that one. @Erica re: Ambitions, I don't actually think it's terribly important to choose early, but she's right about what to pick. You'll be bringing up all your stats over the course of play anyway.
or just have multiple accounts and do all of the ambitions :D (how did I sustain that for so long, no wonder I burned out on Fallen London. the only ambition I wasn't doing was Nemesis)
fuck the Vake or *~fuck the Vake~*? because I think I read a fanfic about the latter ...sorry, maybe that was too much.
aaaaaah ambition feels tho Spoiler: Nemesis spoilers I was so happy with some of the character stuff I managed for Delphia. She was wrecked when Scathewick revealed it was all done to lure her down, because oh god she's given them what they wanted oh god no and RP'd it a bit with the other player I'd been kind of IC-flirting with at the time... and then, next Feast of the Rose, he sent her. A buttered chess-piece. "to remind you that cogs and pieces may prove a little more evasive than planned". And it was perfect. I never turned it in for Masquing because it was so fucking perfect and I headcanon that Delphia had the thing turned into some kind of article of jewelry. She also got... significantly more open to the Revolutionaries after the Cups/Mirrors revelation. FUCK IT, LIBERATE THE NIGHT, WTF DO I CARE. I kind of wanted to have someone "courting" her to that side of things and kind of encouraging her negative character development, buuuut I'd already told the Missionary and the Firebrand to go fuck themselves and I don't know any Revolutionary RPers.
Spoiler: time to get weird based on what I remember about the masters, I feel like banging any of them aside from Mr Veils would be unwise. not to kinkshame or anything, but Veils seems safest and most likely to be into it. also something something corsets? am I remembering this wrong edit: no, not Veils. Wines. fuck. I am very tired and muddled
Also I feel like 50 Shades of Irrigo would be really boring because all the characters would be forgetting what they were doing.
