Fandom Gripes Thread

Man if Homestuck was popular during this current Wave of Tumblr Zines, I tells ya

 

There would be so much Kismesis zine, Palerom zine, etc... Might've even been able to get some Blackrom shipping zines from across different fandoms (back when people weren't afraid to do spadeshipping as much).

I feel Homestuck at least got to benefit from better written fanfic and themed fanfic events? Might just be a 'things were better in the old days' feeling, but man it feels like we don't get near that level now, for any fandom

 

Fully agreed. The Shipping Olympics/World Cup was so much fun and I would kill for something like that again!

 

omg yes, i loved homestuck shipping olympics/world cup! i think the first fic i ever posted on ao3 was for HSO, come to think of it. god i would love to participate in something like that again.

the only fandom i’m in that has held events near that good is Red VS Blue; rvbficwars has done RVB Bingo Wars, Big Bangs, Angst Wars, Fluff Weeks, and monthly Fic Rec Days.

everything else... well, there’s a variety of fanfic exchanges, both of the “pan-fandom” and “single fandom” varieties, but while they are pretty fun, they’re solidly exchanges and not so much events.

 

HSO was fun but I always found it rather stressful. I would really like seeing other kinds of events of similar scale in other fandoms though? Or things like Femslash Feb. Especially for like weird formats of fic. Like poetry fic month or script fic month or make a fucking in-universe text like encyclopedias and shit month.

 

when people get key things about a character wrong and immediately deflect with "well I've seen other people do it so it counts as canon" like...ok sure other people do draw feferi's horns backwards or use "ain't" in eridan's speaking patterns but it's still...not canon..........you can just...say it's your thing......and not insist that other people doing it will make it canon............

 

yea... well, the word there would be something like 'adopted fanon' I think

jesus christ some parts of DBH fandom are SO OBNOXIOUS about having any interest in gavin reed (1-dimensional piece of shit bigot npc with little screentime. fandom usually gives him more humane post-game characterization or uses him for hardcore porn) despite cultivating that aura of mature shamelessness. "heres my Nth tweet dunking on myself for being sooo trashy and tasteless and also wanking to how cool I am for only caring about canon-compliant gavin and making him suffer in my fic" please its been months just fucking take it or leave it already. it's like high school all over again when someone would say "I like x, I KNOW I'M SO WEIRD!!". nothing about this is mature and ur making actual shameless people look bad

Or possibly the actual hentai released by the studio of their own characters, because they decided if it was gonna happen anyway they might as well do it themselves.

which says it wasn’t actually Studio Gainax that released it, though they have released stills. Here’s the quote:

Almost all Gamzee voice actors make him sound like Cookie Monster even though a) he's only thirteen and probably not a chain-smoker, and b) Equius canonically mistook his voice for Terezi's.
