I fucking adore this kind of ARG kinda of fan work, do you know of any more?

 

I know there was a long series of I think Yelp reviews for Aziraphale's book shop from good omens floating around on tumblr a while back. I have no idea what search terms to look for to find them, but someone here might know better.

Idk if this counts but fansplaining did an ep on social media fics recently so there's probably some good stuff there! (I don't listen to podcasts, I follow them on tumblr because they link cool stuff sometimes, so I don't know)

Sansa Stark watches her father's head get chopped off, faints, and wakes up to find herself looking at Ned Stark - I mean Sean Bean - I mean Boromir, on his way to the Council of Elrond. She decides that she will not lose another father.

 

Hands Stained Crimson by theoretically_moss is a nice retelling of Crimson Flower. Its central conceit is that ng+ cycles are time loops and Byleth is not in control of when she jumps back to the start of the game. This and the nature of the war has made her extremely depressed. She also hates Edelgard. A lot. So if you ever wanted an enemies to lovers take on CF then here you go! There's a few other fics that go along with HSC too, as they're all part of theo's Our Crimson Path series. A word of warning with HSC is that it is a novelization of CF that exists mostly as character exploration for Byleth. It is not a golden route, fix-it fic, or plot divergent thing.

Wind and Fire by the same author is a sibling AU rewrite of Verdant Wind. It's only in its early stages but I really liked HSC and it looks like it'll be a fun ride too. It's got m!Byleth (called Barbas in the fic) who is the one with the crest stone in him and f!Byleth (still called Byleth) who very much does not have one. So she's a more emotional sort from the get go and has brown hair like her dad. While Barbas is starting out very :| as per the usual.

 

I sadly didn't note this when it was fresh, but I find the very poetic way the Doom Slayer narrates absolutely amazing.

 

Can anyone rec some good leia-centric star wars fic? Especially longfic? Age/specific movie setting not required, there's just not enough badass Leia in my life

 

How do you feel about unfinished fic?

Of Queens, Knights, and Pawns is 700k words long and still ongoing as of March. The core premise is Leia from the ending of TFA wakes up as her teenage self in the Death Star, decides that Alderaan won't explode this time and starts taking action. It is very good and very long and very slow updating.

That author's other works in that vein are also super good. I really like Shifting Sands, where Leia wakes up on Tatooine about a year before the start of the Phantom Menace and gets adopted by the Skywalkers. But it updates even more slowly since the author considers it just a side project for QKaP

Azula goes to the North Pole to get the Water Tribe on side while Zuko deals with the Earth Kingdom, only to learn that the frozen barbarians require a marriage in order to seal treaties. Since Zuko is already engaged, Azula will have to pick up the slack for him, as usual. At least her wife-to-be is quiet, if rather useless.
Azula/Yue arranged marriage AU.

Force of Many Sights: Series in which Darth Vader is sent back to his nine-year-old Phantom Menace body, is sort-of accepted into the Jedi with surprisingly little resistance, proceeds to enter dialectical-behavioral therapy for extreme PTSD, borderline personality disorder and Dark Side addiction recovery.

Tano and Kenobi: In which Ahsoka is MacGuffined back to Obi Wan’s pre-padawan years, fights Qui Gon, and becomes Obi Wan’s master instead.

Anyone else got some good longfic? I Hunger.

 

Have you read the Ouroboros series by bedlamsbard? first fic is Clone Wars-era Anakin swapping places with OT-era Vader. second fic is after he gets back to his proper time, and he, Obi-Wan, and Padme are zapped into an alternate universe where Anakin never got found by the Jedi, Obi-Wan left the Order, and various other things are different. slowburn ot3. one of my favorite fanfics ever. the third fic is currently a WIP I believe but the author hasn't started publishing yet.

 

I think I have read at least some of it! I just looked bedlamsbard up, and the synopsis sounds familiar. I have a mixture of good-fic and cliffhanger-bruise vibes coming back from it.

Oh, just remembered another! Still time-travel fixit, but Naruto, this time:

Retrograde Motion: in which Sakura is extremely miffed to find herself back in an eleven-year-old body that can’t even punch through a small mountain. Fleshes out Uzishio refugee culture & civilian sealing tradition in a really interesting way; unfinished, ends with a cliffhanger that I’ve happily slammed myself into over and over.

(Ever get the feeling where you just Keep Falling Down All These Time-Travel Fixits? Star Wars and Naruto seem like particularly fertile ground for them.)

 

it's because everybody in canon keeps making so many incredibly avoidable terrible decisions. it's like catnip to fic writers
