Aggressive top Waver is the Best, even though I ship him with Rider way more (even though mostly in the future) because their dynamic is... really interesting and Waver does live up to being an important figure, which means he fulfilled what Rider wanted him to, plus they genuinely care about each other and ugh. Waver/Ryuu is such an interesting ship though omg (I mostly only ever considered Ryuunosuke with Caster being trapped in their sadomasochistic heaven together :'D ) ohh my god that sounds like so much fun but also such a mess, I hope they didn't end up destroying the entire university :DD That's.... different than I thought it would be, but I am definitely not sorry for Shirou in a magical girl outfit, because it needs to be a thing.
Honestly, I expected to Ship Rider and Waver, beause they are my two favorite types. Large, strong intelligent older and cheerful, and smoll young cranky too smart for his own good little troll. But in the end I liked them better as bros. Not to say I couldn't see Rider doing it int he right situation (perhaps with the older Waver) but in the context of Zero? Nah, hugs all the way.
Yeah, I too am just for hugs in the context of Zero because their relationship feels more like a hug one in there, especially with most of Wavers character development being because of Iskandar, which sort of creates a potentially unhealthy imbalance since Iskandar sort of acts like his mentor? And that's not really a thing I want happening with Waver and Iskandar becuase they are a very fluffy ship so like. future Iskandar/Waver all the way
I really like older, Lord El-Melloi II era Waver/Rider as a ship, and I desperately wish there was more of it out there. I agree on Fourth War era shipping- it can be done well, I've seen it, but the power imbalance makes things potentially very weird since Waver hasn't fully matured at that age. Sure, at nineteen he's a young adult, but the emphasis is on the young there. Iskander/El-Melloi II, though? Way to hit me right in the loyalty kink, I mean damn. A sharp-witted, sharp-tongued follower, secure enough in his position to bicker with his king constantly but deeply devoted to him nevertheless, and a charismatic, deceptively-intelligent commander with a big heart who treats his loyalty like the treasure it is? Yes thank you I'll take fifty. So my perception of their relationship is that Iskander is Waver's friend and mentor as Rider, and then after Waver dies and winds up in the Hetairoi (it happens, screw the laws of the Nasuverse, this is not up for debate) they develop a relationship on a more even footing. Also, Iskander has a healthy, well-negotiated kind of polyamorous thing going on with a few people, because what's the point of having your own personal afterlife if you can't enjoy it. Roxana and Hephastion approve of the new addition, and subtly high-five their king for managing to get some across time and space. By the way, are you still running that askblog? I wouldn't mind taking a look at it, the concept sounds interesting.
Not so much running, as staring at sadly. Askblogs need questions to run properly and I didn't get many of those. You can look at it http://ask-alexandria-the-great.tumblr.com/ and if you ask a question, i'll probably answer it. XD Lastfew things posteed here reblogs that amused the Fem!Rider muse, and Miss Matou bits. Poly Iskandar is totally a thing I agree with. and honestly, I can totaly see him as just the kind of person who has sex with his freinds because it shows them how much he loves them. He's... big hearted. I have a lot of Rider feels.
My guess would be that there's a core group of people he has serious, long-term relationships with, plus a running series of casual one-night stands and friends with benefits type things with various people who just want to have a bit of fun. I have to admit, the character Iskander and the actual, historical Alexander have become relatively separate people in my head, largely because the former is probably a much kinder person than the latter- while they were both badass, Alexander the Great did some pretty awful stuff over the years. Since the series changed some details anyway, it's not much of a stretch to just say that history in the Nasuverse was slightly different.
Well yeah, even if it was hidden from the general populace, magic is a tangible thing in the Natsuverse. (and vampries) history is going to be subltey diffrent. though I have to say that nice people can do some pretty awful stuff.
Oh yeah, of course, I just like being able to enjoy the character without thinking of him as a total asshole. Like, Iskander's still started some truly historical shit (see, for example, Persepolis), but there would have been more of the whole "to conquer without humiliating" bit, and less... well, I was going to say "raping and pillaging" but there probably was still a fair bit of pillaging. You get what I mean, though.
Exactly. I just find that I enjoy it more when I make the distinction between the actual historical figure and the fictional character. That goes for most historically-inspired fiction, really. Not that the Nasuverse is exactly wedded to historical accuracy in the first place. I don't mind the gender changes, I just wish they gave those poor women more sensible costumes. Even if you're magic, fighting wearing nothing but three ribbons and a pair of stiletto heels sounds uncomfortable.
Oh Dead Gods. Don't get me started no wait, do but only if you want to hear me complain about how the WASTED Elisabeth Bathroy. Or maybe complain about how a cheap shift would have made all the diffrence to the 'Jack the ripper' Ugh I swear I can love and hate it in the same breath.
I don't know exactly why, but the talk about Waver/Iskander shipping somehow collided in my head with it being Valentine's Day and this thing happened: Roses are red/White is the hydrangeaum/I'll be your thing on the side/When you're not banging Hephaestion ...Happy Valentine's Day, guys.
I realize that at this point it's basically just me rambling into the pixelated void, but after a certain point you need to put all your headcanons somewhere, so: it occurs to me that from the Mackenzies' point of view, Fate/Zero basically went like a modern version of a relatively classic fairy tale- a supernatural person in a deceptively normal guise shows up on the doorstep of a virtuous old couple who take him in and treat him kindly despite the oddness of the situation.
I like to think that he kept looking in on them from then on. His grandparents now. It was a lie, but now it's the truth.
Oh, absolutely. By now they all know Waver isn't actually related to them, but he calls and drops by to visit every now and then, so over the years they've basically adopted him.
Could be wrong, but I think I actually remember Glenn saying something like "I don't know how I even mistook you for one of ours, you're much too nice and polite" during the rooftop conversation, so I'm betting their grandkids aren't exactly the best relatives.
I also remember hearing from somewhere that Waver was an orphan, so... yep, basically just stole himself a family. (It all just went to Hamilton lyrics in my head. "You’re an orphan. Of course! I’m an orphan. God, I wish there was a war. Then we could prove that we’re worth more than anyone bargained for…" actually, that fits weirdly well.)
