idk if i ever said this or not, but i'm ALMOST, ALMOST finished with my dress. All that's left is the hemming. the hemming will indeed be A Bitch.
I'm done with 20 repeats! got 9 left to go instead of 8, after some measuring showed that fabric stretch betrayed me and added a secret extra pattern repeat (2.25m left instead of the 2m it should be....) But I'm so damn pleased that i got this far and the end is in sight!
I can't believe I've never tried a basting stitch before today. My backpack ripped and it finally got bad enough that I didn't want to keep using it and risk the entire seam tearing out. It was right on the zipper too, at a rounded corner with a handle a couple inches away on the non-zipper side. Basically, it was gonna be a bitch and a half to try to pin and machine sew, and my hand sewing isn't nearly fine enough to do a structural repair on the backpack I use for heavy books. Ten minutes of hand basting, then ten minutes on the machine, and it's as fixed as I can get it without completely replacing the blown panel. It probably took less time than I would have faffing about with pins, definitely turned out better. You have to get really close and personal with the panel to tell it's not original to the backpack, and I even managed to preserve the free movement of the flappy bit on the inside of the zipper. This backpack is 13 years old now. I've been using it since middle school. I'm so glad this repair turned out so well and this one seam isn't its death knell.
I finished my dress! hemming was indeed a bitch! it turned out gorgeous, I'll show pics in a bit, but like. guys if I ever go "ooo I'll make a floaty dress with a long skirt, lots of fabric, and a lining!" ever again please make me rethink.
Explaining the demands of larp costuming to someone: Basically we make cosplays you can go hiking in for a weekend, throw in the wash on the highest setting, and still have a costume afterwards.
I guess I’m in a sewing mood this week. Pin gathers are a pain, but fuck they look good. Spoiler: This took an hour.
Eeey I'm going to be trying to do a YouTube stream for shearing Apple I think some time tomorrow (Friday US west coast time). Is there a time that anyone would prefer?
Okay morning is nice and overcast today so I'm gonna go at it before the sun comes out and the heat hits. Setting up for about 9:30 am PST (12:30 in the afternoon EST).
I think it was my connection. I couldn't get it to work right. Gonna try it again sometime this week I think.
Me: man I wish my pockets were bigger. That would be nice. me @ me: you’ve been sewing for 9 years. Don’t let your dreams be dreams. Spoiler: 16 oz soda for scale
