One downside to my new server (or maybe it's just bc of the expansion?? Not sure) is that practically no one is doing A and S Rank Hunts. Since we just hit 50 recently we have to farm poetics for our Ironworks armor and...it's not exactly easy. :( /slogs thru beast tribe quests... I mean, as long as it doesn't give out nasty status effects, partner and I have managed to take down A ranks as healer/tank combo with a couple friends, but it's hard and takes a lot of teamwork.
Honestly I didn't really bother with the Ironworks armor. Spent tomes I happened to get, but there are better buyables/craftables available. There's a level 60 omnicrafter in my FC and I just paid for mats.
I just like the way it looks, tbh...I want it for a glamour. But i also shelled out a lot for my HQ lvl 50 accessories so I don't have a lot of gil to burn for gear atm. 8( So it's useful either way until we hit HW content. (we're still early 2.1-2.2)
It definitely looks good, I agree! But at the time I was hard-charging toward HW, and was fortunate to have the FC help to gear up. I now caught up on my Bard quests! One of the things that bugs me about this game is how so many things are hidden behind optional quests. Especially since common advice is "ignore optional quests on your first class, leave them for leveling other classes later; the main story quests are most of the time enough to level."
I'm...really...idk what the word is, but if i see a quest icon I HAVE TO PICK IT UP, its like I need to clear my map and make it nice and clean so i basically do every quest I get my hands on. Which is why I've been playing since May and am still nowhere near HW yet. sob.
Feels a little OCD-ish to me? But honestly I think going slowly is a great way to explore the game. My alt, I'm doing that. Trying to keep my crafts up to the same level as my combat levels.
I have to get around to doing Thornmarch but I keep putting it off bc I supposedly have to memorize the order to kill the adds in and then tag them for everyone... I'm kinda hoping the other tank will volunteer to be MT. Oh, if anyone missed it, currently until October 10 there is an "itinerant moogle" near each city aetheryte plaza that sells some cosmetic earrings. Something about them being available because the ppl at Tokyo Game show beat Ravana Ex? Actually the cactuar earring is lvl 1 and gives +1 to several stats so it's handy if you're starting new classes.
I did The Vault and it was honestly kind of nice.. The Aery was so hard I never want to do it again, but The Vault seems fairly farmable if i want to do an instance.
Bismark also destroyed. I think I'm having a much easier time as ranged DPS, less of a clusterfuck when stuff starts popping up and while it's not optimal for me to mess up what I'm doing when I have to move it's not like people are dying if I stop DPSing for a second or two.
my friend bought me the Gestahl pet because I bought him the expansion a few months ago.. it also looks a lot like my irl dog, just different colors.
this is p silly, but I looked up my bot friend from my old server to see if he was still around and here he is. Basically, back on Tonberry we were running around Coerthas when we saw this guy fighting stuff and nearly dying, so I tossed him some heals. Then looking at his name (and sadly underleveled gear. like, lvl 15 gear.) we realized he was a bot, so we followed him around out of curiosity for a bit. He was just running back and forth farming the same area over and over. Japanese servers don't seem to have the problem of people getting spammed with RMT tells, but there do seem to be bots around. He had a "brother" over in Urth's Gift in the South Shroud that had made it to lvl 50 and was farming stuff there. A little while later (like the next week) we were doing something in Natalan and got mobbed and in comes the bot, newly geared up and standing his own at lvl 50! I felt weirdly proud of him. Now when I see the generic Hyur guy in the opening I think of him as "Hannan". He doesn't seem to be online anymore, probably because the free trial for that account ran out or whatever, but that makes me kinda happy because it means he probably won't get deleted.

I do like that this year's Hallowe'en gear is dyeable, which makes it more flexible for use in glamours. Nice thigh-boots, and the only seasonal trim on those is orange side laces at the top.
As a heads up if you don't have any soot black or jet black dye and it's pricey on your server, the ink blue dye you can get from some vendors is actually really close to black anyway. i can't really tell the difference in most lighting.
