this tumblr post makes me lol so hard 'cause i'm imagining, like, most of the people in the crowd yelling at the few scorpios
like, all of sudden, every single non-scorpio just gangs up on the scorpios
'cause "the signs" is a category that encompasses everyone on earth and "the signs (except for scorpio)" is most of the people on earth
    so yeah... wow...

I keep reading guro and junk and every time I do it ends with me mumbling something like "that was mean :C" to myself. Why do I keep doing it? I know I don't like it. Why do i keep expecting it to not be mean?

The first time I read a nasty rapey porn comic when I was 13 or whatever I kept forcing myself to keep going even though it was "mean :'C" cause I had it in my head that if I just got to the end everything would be all right. The heroine would be freed and go raise her half-demon baby with her loving animu husbando, everyone would heal up and there would be rainbows and puppies, etc. I feel like I maybe haven't grown past that.

there's gotta be some guro thing that ends on aftercare. Somewhere on the internets is something that satisfies my need to see gross shit and also people being lovely to one another.

Any other US folks remember the whole 'freedom fries' thing from right after 9/11? Lately I haven't been able to stop thinking about how weird that was. It's weird enough I half believe I dreamed it

@EulersBidentity I was seven or eight at the time when this was a Thing, so my memory may not be entirely accurate, but iirc when Bush pushed to go into the Middle East immediately post 9/11, France said they wouldn't go. There was some truly hysterical pushback from the more Republican-leaning bits of the country, culminating in shit like "they're not French fries any more, they're freedom fries!" Idek, it was really weird, and living in a red state I got a lot of it. I got yelled at when I asked if that meant we had to have "freedom toast" then too. (I was in third grade, it was a legitimate question.)

ETA: in retrospect, the funniest part of this is that the first time I ever heard someone call them "French fries" was when they were explaining the whole thing to me. As far as I knew they were just fries.

oph There was a user here, but it's gone now

French freedom toast did get that treatment, too, though to a lesser extent

can confirm, FREEDOM fries were a thing

    which is silly

because if you replace one word with another, to me it just links the words, rather than over-writing them

so now french and freedom are linked in my brain

    good jorb

Oh God, freedom fries. I remember them entirely as a subject of ridicule (I was in third grade when 9/11 happened--not much older than you, @sirsparklepants--but I grew up in an extremely far-left town and was exposed to a lot of Look At Those Wacky Conservatives stuff from a young age), but I do remember them.

Somehow the freedom toast question never occurred to me, though. Which is kind of weird, since when I was in elementary school I'd often go to my friend Rowen's house for sleepovers and her mom often made us really good french toast for breakfast the next morning, so it's not like french toast wasn't something I wasn't aware of (in fact, I was extremely fond of it). And like..."french fries" can just be shortened to "fries" and people will know exactly what you mean, but "french toast" can't just be shortened to "toast" because it's a specific preparation. So you'd think french toast would've gotten that treatment even worse, really.

Sweet potato fries > regular fries anyway.

I dunno, man. Sweet potato fries are good and all, but well-seasoned crispy fries of the regular ol' potato variety are a true gift from above.

I will kill a man for sweet potato fries, but here's the real question:

"Shoestring" fries (long, thin and crispy)
    OR
"Steak" fries (short, thick, and meaty)

If I wanted to eat potato slices I would go eat goddamned potato slices, not try to dress them up as fries!

Depends on how they're cooked. Potato wedges can be cooked more, but thin ones get crunchy instead of crispy very quickly.

As a NYer I never even heard of the freedom fries thing nor remember seeing it in restaurants.

Meanwhile I do remember that when the Yankees were playing the Red Sox for the World Series people refused to go to Boston Market because it was "bad luck".

Also y'all are wrong: waffle fries all the way
