I have a new desktop pc but I can’t figure out how to turn the brightness down, and it’s starting to give me a headache.

Usually desktops don't have a brightness option on the computer itself...try pushing the buttons on the monitor and see if those do anything?

This is a completely random thought but like: what was italian food before the columbian exchange??!?!? they didn't have tomatoes but like most foods we think of as italian involve tomatoes literally the only thing that i can think of that i feel like i know romans had is olive oil and wine???? like. probably bread?

for that matter what was anyone's like, traditional food before the columbian exchange. Potatoes aren't european either, can't make shepherd's pie without potatoes, or like, half of what i think of as british food or german food. what the fuck did anyone eat before 1600 (edit: or like 1500 i am too full of illness to figure out exactly when the columbian exchange got new foods everywhere right now)

Turnips. Kale (it´s a german food) Dead pig, lots of it. We generally have afair amount of non potatoe root vegetables here, though i scorn them for tasting like ass for the most part.

ETA: this is for germany, idk about italy

They've got a lot of glutamate (or something similar, may be misremembering the compound) when they're ripe. Glutamate is detected by tastebuds and registers as a savory taste experience, which is also described as meaty or brothy. So yeah. The same goes for a number of other veggies, fermented foods, and meat broths.

  10. ... sounds fake, but okay. I’m just gonna pass on tomatoes, to each their own.

This is supporting the theory I had that we don't remember what (european) people ate before the columbian exchange because it was really boring

Italy especially wouldn't boring at all? rich cheese culture, grapes, figs, olives, apples and so on. Berries. filled wine leaves. carrots and turnips and spinach. pine nuts. mangold. beets probably? Pesto rly bc basil will grow all over everythign and take over half your garden fi you don't eat it en masse.
cress and dandelion and stuff can be eaten as salad greens. Italy especially fucking loves fish and most other seafood because it has so much coast. lemons and other citrus fruits wwere likely already known and imported from asia so those were available. Capers probably too? And a shitload of the traditional herbs of italy literally just grow as weeds there which is pretty incredible.

Yeah, like, chicken piccata? Delicious, and 100% old world ingredients.

Mediterranean food is pretty much all delicious, fight me.

i *die* for genuine italian cheese and ham platters honestly. With some calamata olives and artichoke hearts on top? And the good red wine?

Here's some cookbooks from the medieval period - that might give you an idea of what food was like in Europe pre-Columbian exchange

it's easy to share modpacks too, I have one in the minecraft thread, if you download it and give me your username it should have a server preloaded in the multiplayer menu. I designed the modpack to work better with less ram than the normal kintsugi modpack.

Twitch either merged with or picked up the Curse mods client a... year or two back? So you can get all kinds of mods through them now, because they were basically all imported over from Curse's servers when that happened.

It was weird having to make a Twitch account just to get WoW to work the way I wanted it to, though.

I haven’t played Minecraft in awhile, which is why I’m surprised. Also I rarely go on twitch because it never seemed to work right on my Mac. Hopefully it works better on windows.
