specifically im gonna increase hiking and try out solo camping, if i like it then my goal is gonna be to go on a multi day hike alone this year !
im also making myself a like, Do The Things You Want To Accomplish schedule for january where I try to plan out how much I'm going to work towards a few of my goals each week and stick to it really strictly; i know it won't be sustainable but the point is to figure out what of the things i wish i was doing consistently i actually want to keep doing and what things i cut out i really don't want around as much as i thought.

    My plans are;
    1) Make more effort with my writing.
    2) Slowly and carefully take steps to restarting my Etsy.
    3) Add to my exercise program.

I just spent 3 and a half hours playing CAH with 8 women ranging from about age 50 to 85 (including my mother) and it was the most fun I’ve had playing any game ever I think

    happy goddamn new year everybody

after thinking abt it I think my resolution is to get decent at Cars. considering I know almost nothing about them and I literally jumped a car for the first time earlier today, that’s gonna be difficult, but it’s something I’ve needed to do for years.

related: if anyone knows of learning resources for someone who knows jack about cars and has a short attention span, I would love to hear about it!

I have some Christmas cash and am within travelling distance of a place which rents out time in sensory deprivation tanks. I've been curious about what those are like for years. Think I should go for it? Has anyone else had a go in one? I think I might try it, my main problem is gonna be travelling there. It's not far but I don't do well with unfamiliar journeys... Time to play with Google Maps.

the podcast Oh No Ross and Carrie did an episode on sensory deprivation tanks! they were more focused on investigating the supposed health benefits of the things, but the episode contains a v thorough description of the experience which should help you be able to gauge your interest. I can’t remember the episode number but you should be able to google it!

So I watched the Cats movie that just came out. It had.... problems but I had a good time. So I got curious and checked out the 1998 direct-to-video... And then all these YouTube bootlegs to see how how stuff changes between performances... And fanfiction. And Tumblr headcanons.

I think I'm now legally obligated to call myself a furry.

    WELCOME TO HELL :D

if you want a fic rec that’s no longer available online, I managed to dig up my old favorite Cats fic on the wayback machine last week! it’s called In The City, it’s a werecat AU, and it actually holds up pretty well quality-wise to my 13-year-old recollection: here!

Question; AO3's giving me some problems with tagging cowriters. I wanted to tag mine for each chapter they actually wrote and not the ones they didn't, but it's auto-tagged one of them in all chapters after a certain point and won't let me un-tag them, nor let them un-tag themselves. Is this a problem anyone else has had? Is there a way to fix it? If not I'll just add them as co-creators on everything and ask them to put their names in the chapter summaries of the ones they did.

I just moved into my cousin's house back in april last year and now my father is saying he wants to move out to Iowa. I'm not opposed to moving but I've lived in New Jersey my whole life and I think I would miss it too much to leave the state. Things are too expensive here though. Does anyone here live in Iowa?

Edit: Just checked to see what the minimum wage is in Iowa and it's only 7.25. I know apartments are cheaper out there but I don't think I could survive on that.

Resolutions always seemed like an awkwardly formal conversation to have with myself, as if I expected to be interrupted mentally by some (third... second party?) second party. I just have trouble taking myself seriously when the only entities witnessing this are me and possibly God, and the only one who has any investment is... probably none of us, actually. Weird because I absolutely talk to myself, I’m just not my real intended audience I guess. Neither is God, because that seems like a bit much to ask my deity to do things like interpret my bad and inaccurate sign language of intrusive thoughts, let alone co-sign an agreement that’s one giant escape clause. Either I have a useful and functional idea about how to go about making something into a habit, or it’s not happening and there’s no use fretting any further over it.

That said, this year I hope to continue eating daily salad because it’s working out really well for me, and continue doing really short near-daily treadmilling, because it’s easier than trying to exercise some days of the week but not others. And to try out this mindfulness thing more because it seems promising. It definitely enhanced my enjoyment of Star Wars to be aware of my enjoyment of Star Wars. Which is a weird start, but still a start.

hyrax we'll ride 'till the planets collide

for the new year (and new insurance) i've just started the process of getting hrt! so i have... less a coherent set of resolutions, and more a general sense of "time to Work On Me." with a side of "buckle up, motherfucker."

it’s not a resolution exactly, and i refuse to call it one, but i’m trying to draw every day this year (and beyond), even if it’s just a single quick shitty doodle. so far i’ve been keeping it up!

all the brain badness sparked by that nasty breakup two years back really put a damper on my art production, so it’s something i’m trying to train myself back into doing regularly. c:
