so tonight was the opening night of the opera i've been working on

it rained ten minutes into the first act, necessitating a venue change to inside the building we were performing on the steps of. fine, okay, cool, it's the danger of outdoor theatre. np. we'll semi-improvise our staging, it's cool.

second act outside, but we send the orchestra home because the humidity's real bad for them. so digital piano! no big, we're used to it.

oh by the way, there's an electronic dance music day-long concert across the river that we didn't know about, so we get a mashup of Mozart and EDM. alright, that's fun, not as obtrusive as the weekend-long music festival that happened during our dress rehearsals. we're fine.

i'm lighting lanterns backstage, five minutes from the end of the show, about to go on ... and a pigeon shits on my shawl. dammit bird. i strip it, gonna just go in my dress, not the end of the world. stage manager offers her sweater but it's too small and not quite right. fellow cast member says "oh we can use the queen's cape!" like the qUEEN of the NIght's cape (not fixing that caps lock fuckup it's golden). LOL wow okay sure, cool, alright! they run and grab it and we wrap it around my arms and tuck it in so it doesn't look quite so much like I'm attempting to usurp the throne.

most. eventful. opening. night. ever. good LORD

(but apparently a pigeon shitting on you is good luck? huh)

 

I've never been coming from outside a group before so idk the protocol for this: if a photoshoot is listed on a schedule of a convention, does that mean it's okay for people from that fandom to turn up at all? Or is it just.. like. Individual people doing closed photoshoots and not group things? I'm asking because I realized I'd be able to attend one but I don't want to turn up looking ready to do things and suddenly "No, sorry, you're being stupid this is a closed thing".

 

i've never seen a closed photoshoot at a convention before fwiw

 

if it's labeled as something along the lines of 'cosplay meetup', then yes. you show up, there's a big group, they tell you to get into smaller groups for pictures. other than that, i don't know. if it's on the schedule, it probably IS a public thing.

 

Okay, I just wasn't sure. All the page is is this - http://matsuricon.org/photoshoots/ and the discussion page on facebook is mostly for photographers and people hosting things.

That'll be open photoshoots! Most of the anime cons I went to would organize it like that too, definitely show up if you've got relevant cosplay or just want to take pictures! Both parts are essential for open photoshoots to go awesomely : D
one time people jokingly yelled at me for not being at a photoshoot because they almost had everyone for a specific group from the series, and my cosplay was the only one they were missing xD

private photoshoots would definitely not be on a schedule like that.. I know at katsucon a lot of photographers will schedule individual, professional photoshoots with cosplayers, but those are usually organized privately and, at least in katsucon's case, money is usually exchanged in those

 

in other news, waiting for cons to release the event schedule is so painful. Like. hhhh, come on, the con's in two weeks, I want to know what's happening in it.

 

I feel kind of bad, apparently there was a Rick and Morty one scheduled aaaand.... 1 Rick showed up. That's it. Literally nobody else turned up to the entire shoot. People had even said they were coming via Facebook and :SHRUGGING NOISES: And day 1 of the Homestucks had a resounding 6 people turn up, while today had about 50-60. We got hurried around a lot and being the only person in a wheelchair was kinda awkward to sort things out, irregardless of costume, but the time was a very fun one and def the best part of my day.

Dabbing. Dabbing fucking everywhere.

 

Lol. My favorite thing with cons is how much memes become such an excited irl thing. If there's a meme you can do with your body that's in during a con people are SO EXCITED.
