Hmm.... I’ll think on this. Phoebe in Wonderland is the first thing that comes to mind, though it is explicitly about a child with an undiagnosed developmental disorder. I didn’t personally find it depressing so much as understanding and affirming. It is heavy at times and did make me cry buckets, but it’s also vivid, imaginative, and kind to Phoebe and her family who are trying their best but feel scared and confused. I found it cathartic, and it left me hopeful and inspired. It’s also visually pleasing. Spoiler: incomplete cw The movie contains potentially life threatening self harm connected to intrusive thoughts and compulsion. I don’t remember there being any graphic injury, but there is an instance of nongraphic serious injury with full recovery.
