Oh man, that one absolutely killed me. I didn't realize I'd even heard enough spooky podcasts to know how perfect that spoof was, but apparently I have. Or it's just so good it transcends experience.

Specific to Colossalcon but I suppose it doubles for any con at a location with a pool and a bar.

Definitely tangential, but on the subject of con drinking, I went to my first ever room party at Fanime 2018, and I got blasted on a variety of free booze. This did not warrant me apologizing to my parents, since I was a grown-ass adult and wasn’t gonna be doing anything too dumb.

Drinking a Coors, however, ABSOLUTELY merited me texting my parents at like one in the morning, drunk, and apologizing for not heeding their advice that Coors is gross. I should’ve listened. I should’ve listened.

No regrets aside from that tho

It was SO BAD. I don’t even hate most cheap beer that much (I actually kinda like Pabst), but Coors was barfworthily vile. :(

I have been recently learning Russian on duolingo! It's really fun.

Technically, I am bilingual (stronger in English than Spanish though), but I have been hearing/speaking both of those since I was a baby, so I've never learned a language 'from scratch' before. It's so cool! And kind of addicting? And really hard, lol. The words don't MEAN anything! They're just clumps of sounds! But then they gain meaning the more you practice them! Wild.

Quick informal poll: is sunday the beginning of the week, or is monday the beginning of the week? Why?

Ive always thought of it being monday, because sunday was a rest day for my family (or was supposed to be), and monday is where you pick up and go at life again

It's both. Sunday and Monday are both the start of "the week", but I have two different concepts of "week". There is the "work week" which starts on Monday and there is "the calendar week" which starts on Sunday. As far as why I have both...It's because these two conflicting ideas of "week" just exist in my life? And they're useful for specific kinds of situations. I don't see a need to adhere strongly to one concept or the other. If someone says it starts at Sunday it starts at Sunday. If someone says it starts Monday it starts at Monday. We bend like a reed in the wind.

I strongly believe that Monday is the start of the week, and that the concept of "Sunday being the first day of the week" was a scam invented by calendar-makers who wanted to make it harder to mix up the "S" columns on their calendars. I will continue to believe this until given reason to believe otherwise.

Do you know any language where Thursday is called "five day"? Where Friday is called "six day"? Because I sure don't.

Agreed. Also: why would it be called a weekend if one of the days was the beginning of the week?

I do tend to think of it like bookends, but emotionally Sunday is the liminal transition point of the week, with Monday the first full day of it.

I tend to think of Sunday as the start of the week just because that’s how it’s generally listed on calendars (at least in the US), but I also feel like Monday probably makes more sense from a purely logical perspective?
