Whenever I'm writing, like, something just to get it out of my head, or to appeal to a kink I want to write, and it's gratuitous and I'm skipping half the plot and I'm aware that it doesn't quite make sense, thank you, I just really need to see these two kiss, I call it 'id vomit.' Used in a few sentences: "That drabble was sheer id vomit, I'm not sure even I can tell you why it ended up that way." "I know this is morally reprehensible, but I just had to id vomit and get it out." "Hey guys, here's some id vomit, it doesn't make sense and I changed a few people's genders, it's just a show, you really should relax."

Despite hating Freud as much as I'm sure most of you do (superego/ego/id is a REALLY simplified split to the point of being a lie) I find the phrase really useful, in that you can just refer to something as 'bursting straight out of the part of me that is fascinated with blood and weird sex and apparently dragons and doesn't want to analyze that.' It's a concise phrase. It's just my id vomiting. Don't worry. Just getting some shit out.

EDIT: Upon reflection I believe 'id vomit' is similar to the thing called 'rolling around in the trash' it's just what I like to call it. It just appeals to me.

 

I had an assignment for class to write a 500-1000 word short story. 1200 words later I had to find a place to wrap it up because he's told is if we go too far over he won't read the whole thing.

 

I feel like that's a better way to express it, because part of saying 'id vomit' is implying the 'this is a wild, unanalyzable part of me' which sorta. idk. i feel like it's a nice buffer to the anti 'no you need to analyze and think about the problematic qualities of everything' concept.

 

Being forced to analyze everything you write, or that anyone writes, is utter nonsense and should be kept in academic hell where it belongs. The big problem with people wanting to analyze every problematic thing in every fic is that the next step is to demand the fic be deleted if it doesnt meet their nonsensical standards to the point of harrassment, which is censorship, which is bad.

Are chickens intended to be pets that lay eggs, or do you buy them with the intent to eat them one day? Ive never owned a chicken and no one im willing to talk to around here has either

 

i want them as pets to lay eggs, yeah! chickens are fairly cheap to feed so i don't mind having them hang around past their egg laying days 8)

 

Chickens are so good, i love them. Ive been trying to convince my mom to get some if we move. Even researching them is fun.

 

I'm super into the concept that the id (the lizard brain? The sexual/violence drive? That untamable animal part we still have) wants what it wants, and if some of it is applicable to reason, not all of it is. People can't really be blamed for what they want, it's not their fault they want that. It's all how they choose to act on their urges, or not. So when someone expresses weird id urges with kind of incomprehensible id vomit, I respect that. And assume that's not how they are in their normal, rational state when they're not letting themselves run naked through the weirdest parts of their own mind.

Contrast with judging someone ENTIRELY by their weirdest and least understood desires, which do not spring from the rational parts of the psyche, aka the anti approach.

 

We all know what the word "shitpost" refers to. But can anyone provide a comprehensive and useful definition of the word "shitpost?" The closest I can think of is "a humorous post on a website whose humor derives partly or wholly from its self-aware surrealism and inappropriateness to the milieu." Like, "shitpost" implies badness, but "shitpost" isn't even used as an insult anymore, and the badness is deliberate and tongue-in-cheek, like a dril tweet or a Chaplin pratfall.
