I saw a comment in the responses to the Folding Ideas video up there where someone said that it's making it awful to do freelance art work right now, because every platform is flooded with people trying to get you to make icons for their NFT scheme and, of course, none of them are offering anything resembling reasonable compensation for the amount of work they're asking for.

 

Regrettably, now that it has been spoken into existence, Homestuck NFTs can be expected in short order.

While there were many funny moments in this Kafkaesque black comedy of existential despair, one of my favorites was that time a bunch of cryptobros started picking fights with furry artists about the legality of copying and reposting art online. Out of every possible topic in the universe that you could try to argue with the furry community about, you managed to pick one that combines three things furries are infamous for knowing more about than any other group on the internet: copyright, networking engineering, and brightly colored cartoon anthropomorphic animals.

 

I look at their lions and apes and just go "You know, you could get a better looking commission for cheaper than the the 8 million you're spending on this. They'll custom craft your lion's dong to be neon pink and glow in the dark if you want too."

 

Hell, most of these things are outright gachas. You shell out to mint a token and you get a totally random ugly lion. If you want one with any particular characteristic you have to either get lucky or buy it. The whole thing is a transparent justification for speculating on arbitrary poker chips, of course, but you do kind of want to gently take some of these people by the hand and lead them to the magical kingdom of FurAffinity, where for a fraction of the price they're currently paying they could order a life-sized photorealistic oil painting of the katana-wielding vampire sharkwolf of their dreams.

Feels weird to keep the fact that the family is vaccinated a secret from the one family member who doesn't have it. He even refuses to be around people that are vaccinated, well it's a bit late for that. I guess he believes in that viral shedding nonsense. Aunt and I are planning to tell him the next time she sees him lmao can't wait for that screaming match. Wonder if he's going to make a big scene at the doctor's office when they try to convince him to get vaccinated.

I think it’d probably depend somewhat on the aliens’ perception of Earth Culture And Norms—like, what human media are they getting, if any? What are their impressions of how humans dress and style themselves? (Furthermore, we’d have to consider the inverse—if humans are pretty accepting of alien species at this point in time/in the area they’re visiting, a disguise might not be fully necessary, although the alien might still opt to use it for various reasons.)

In general, my personal assumption would be that they’d want to blend in, and would choose a form they perceived as Perfectly Average Human. But it would be entirely possible that their perception would not be accurate to our perception, depending on their exposure to both humanity as a species and human culture.

 

Probably dumb addition but what if an alien culture only ever consumed animation as a research tool and suddenly anime people started walking around with wildly exaggerated features and in the panic the term cosplay was born

I kind of wish I could get mildly sick just for the burst of energy when the fever breaks. The day my covid fever broke I cleaned my whole living room. Increased the floorspace by like 40%. Why can't I get that kind of energy without spending a couple days feeling like shit first :/

 

The SCP wiki has decided to remove SCP 173's picture for legal and ethical reasons (since it's copyrighted art by an artist who never intended to have their work used that way, and he gave permission to use it if it isn't monetized because they'd been doing it for 10+ years when he found out but he wasn't super happy about it), and since they don't want to replace it with another "canon" image because it's such an important piece of site history and the original poster said he'd prefer that everyone be able to imagine it their own way, to commemorate it they're doing a community art project where people draw redesigns. They've been retweeting a bunch of them. I think my favorite so far is the picture of a sculpture garden where you can't tell which one is the one that kills you.

 

anyone heard anything about windows 11? my computer just asked me to upgrade when I restarted it. my default assumption is that it's bad but this is the first I've heard that it's even a thing so yanno
