what were you sampling?

 

Lake water microbes!

It takes so much water to get adequate samples

 

nice! just surveying or looking for something specific

(sorry if you don't wanna answer questions. I wanna be A Science When I Grow Up, so I love hearing about people's areas of study)

 

We were looking at the entire microbial communities in our samples and how different carbon sources affected what grew/what didn't/what genes they were expressing. A cool experiment, but super work-intensive, esp. with only two people.

the joke in the lab where I worked this summer was that pcr stood for "pipette, cry, repeat"

 

that is beautiful and I'm sharing it with my genetics professor

 

I think he might have done some PCR, but I wasn't involved in that part; instead it was a ton of DNA and RNA extractions. And we didn't use kits, we did phenol-chloroform extractions so it took days to complete.

why not tag for dark-haired people as well? or people without moles, if we're going to be that specific???

 

I mean I've seen tags for hair length/color, moles, etc on fanart sites, but I don't really understand the point with fic...?
