I'd say sandwich. A calzone is closed. Why would you do that, though.

hotdogs are as much a sandwhich as a burrito or a taco or a wrap is a sandwich -- it's one outer piece around filling. sandwiches are two outer pieces around filling

    burgers, though. those are sandwiches

I feel like at that point it's closer to stromboli.

    Edit: the pizza thing.

afaik thats just a way of eating pizza. some people fold their slices in half first

unless you fold a whole pizza for the express purpose of a semi-circle shaped pizza sandwhich

Many baguette sandwiches are made with the bread not being fully sliced through, so it stays in one piece. If that's a sandwich, then so's a hot dog.

if the bun is seperate it isnt a hotdog anymore its just a wiener in some bread. could possibly fall under sausage roll

I mean there are plenty of sub places that leave the bread still jointed.

but sometimes you have a cheap hot dog bun that falls apart immediately, it doesn't magically become not a hot dog. it's just deconstructed or whatever the hipsters call it

maybe it's the intention that matters more than the reality

hot dog buns aren't intended to fall apart, so even if it does it's still a hotdog.

In unrelated news, a Tumblr.txt food derail happened while I was cooking, and I feel weird contributing to the derail there now, so I want to say here:
I used to sit next to the parsley plant in the back yard when I was little and just. Eat it. I was a very happy child when I learned about tabboulleh.
