It´s not the potential syrup, it´s the waffles that are the problem here

Aunt Jemima style corn syrup, probably? I know that's actually served pretty frequently in restaurants too, that super cloying and thick sugar-syrup-- I like it, but it's not for everyone and it's definitely not anything like Real Maple Syrup (tm).

Yeah, I make a distinction between the HFCS/CS-based imitation maple flavor syrups and actual maple syrup

But in a broader sense there are also berry syrups of various qualities out there, and I'm sure that chocolate/caramel syrups are also used for breakfast toppings

I've only eaten chicken and waffles with round waffles. squares don't compute in my head very well, hah. i like them best with dark meat, so i imagine a thigh and stuff. which doesn't fit very well onto any waffle unless it's big enough.

wait did you mean 'waffle square' as in the indents in the waffle? that makes more sense XD

yes the square holes in the waffles, which exist solely for topping delivery and no one can tell me otherwise

Confession: I almost never eat syrup of any kind unless I have a salty savory thing to balance it out, it's way, way too sweet for me on just pancakes and waffles, so.

yeah pancake syrup is the stuff that comes in a plastic squeeze bottle and is mostly corn, maple syrup is pricier and comes in a glass bottle and you have to refrigerate it once it's open
imo the sweet dipping sauce should go directly on the salty cronch part so that the juicy meat part is not too overwhelmed by the sugar

i've never really wanted to deal with the difficulty of getting chicken and waffles in the same bite, but dipping chicken nuggets in honey can be pretty delicious if you've got a weird flavor palette like me. i did it a lot in elementary school at least

I never had chicken and waffles until i ate a probably overpriced airport burrito featuring waffle pieces, fried chicken, scrambled egg, oh gosh maybe bacon too ive forgotten, and "maple syrup" (unsure if real) that made my teeth feel weird. It was a good combo

Also ugh now i wanna get waffles after my shift tomorrow but i already committed to other food...

Edit: also chicken nuggets with honey-mustard or plum sauce, imo the best. And a maple mustard sort of sauce goes well with salmon iirc. Pancake syrup is fake maple syrup, for when maple syrup is too expensive or you just want The Taste and need the reduced sugar version which tastes a little weird but Good Enough

Unpopular opinion - I... don't like salty with sweet. Like, at all. I can bear it a little, I'll eat maple syrup and bacon sausages when they're put in front of me, but I don't understand how much other people seem to like them. Salted caramel is just... no. No. What is happening in my mouth and why would you put yourself through that.

Salty + sweet = no. why.

A teeny tiny amount of salt (like for instance using salted butter) can enhance sweetness, but if there's enough salt that you can actually TASTE SALT, with sugar, that's so gross. Salted caramel is disgusting, omg why.

Also please do not put sugar on my MEAT. Do not want.

(Chicken can tolerate a little bit of fruity sweet, but not sugary sweet. But beef needs to get a restraining order on sugar and it needs to be enforced.)

sweet sauces with meat is hell unless its chinese for some reason

also whenever i see macarons filled with icing i cringe

they are chewy little almond delights and you shouldn't smother them in the sugar

put ganache or jam in between them like a civilized person

You turn it into a somewhat stiffer mass through the mixing in of whatever solidifying agent you desire, like the stuff that lets whipped cream stay whipped.
