Unpopular opinion: I can't stand green tea ice cream. that flavor is Not Supposed To Be Sweet.

out of curiosity, what is it supposed to be?

    I've always drunk sweetened tea.

Green tea ice cream is best if they use really dark green tea powder. I was spoilt by the homemade green tea ice cream at Seafood Japan grocery store in Columbus, Ohio, and nothing quite measures up.

Black tea can be sweet, but green tea cannot. It's also not supposed to be creamy. Green tea with stuff in it just doesn't taste good to me. Chai ice cream is delicious though!

The big thing to be careful of with green tea is that you want to steep it at a lower temperature and not for as long. Don't let the water boil, and only steep it for like 2-3 minutes instead of 5.

Get some green tea that is actually designed to be drunk and not just to wash your food down; most Japanese restaurant green tea tastes like dirty water to me.

I am fond of Adagio's Tease blend. It's actually supposed to be a tribute to the Teen Wolf TV show but it's the only green tea I really like as a beverage rather than a flavouring for ice cream, macarons, etc, and *googles* shit, apparently they don't make it any more? Wow, I'm glad I bought an assload of it last time I ordered. But since they have made green tea that I didn't hate, I feel pretty safe in recommending that they might make other good green teas.

i didn't like green tea until i got older, but that might have to do with the time my mom accidentally got green chai tea and we had to drink it. it was not nearly as satisfying as black chai.

i like herbal teas more than pure teas, but irish breakfast is my favorite of the black teas, followed closely by lady grey. and i had one tea with lavender in it that was just divine...

I drink chai by, like, the gallon, and every time I see somewhere selling green chai I kind of shudder at the thought.

I like green teas with ginger or lemongrass or jasmine. That green chai sounds extremely questionable though.

Anyone else tried pu erh or lapsang souchong? Weird tasting but surprisingly good.

I had pu erh once, but it was in a mix with quite a bit of other stuff, so I'm not sure what exactly was the Pu Erh Flavor. (It was good, though. Had caramel in it.)

Any chance that the blend you're thinking of is this one? It's near the bottom of the results you get when you search "tease" on Adagio's site, so I wasn't entirely sure if you've seen it already...and I figured that, if it's not the same blend you ordered before, it might be a reformulation of that blend. If you remember what teas were in the original blend, you could try recreating it yourself under "Blends -> Create a Blend".

I've spent a little too much time on Adagio Teas back in my day, so I want to clear some things up about their teas. One, as far as I know, they've never fandom-branded one of their own teas. Rather, what they do is allow users to create blends of their teas, and then name and label them how they'd like...and most users name and label their blends after fandom things. You can check out a whole bunch of these user-created blends under their "Blends" -> "Fandom Blends" page, although if you're looking for a specific fandom or character, it's easier to just enter it into their search bar. (The Fandom Blends page is set to infinite scroll, so don't try to get to the bottom of it. There are thousands of blends to scroll through.)

Some users and their created blends are more popular than others, so I think Adagio might acknowledge some of the bigger names sometimes? Like, there's this "Framed Fandoms" page where they sell framed sets independently of the rest of the fandom blends, and I have no idea how that arrangement happened. I'm pretty sure every blend in those sets was originally created by a fan...the artwork for and general design of the Sherlock set looks especially familiar. But the vast majority of the fandom blends on Adagio's website are never acknowledged by or, as far as I know, even seen by any of the People Who Run Adagio Teas. And I haven't heard of them ever taking down a user's blend before...although I guess they might sometimes? I just haven't seen it.

But if a fandom blend you've ordered through Adagio suddenly becomes unavailable, there's two (other) things that might have happened. One: the user took down the blend themselves, or else set it to "private", so that only they can access it. Two: one of the teas used for that blend is out of stock or discontinued. If it's out of stock, it should come back again eventually, and then so will the blend...but "discontinued" is "discontinued". ...And "taken down by the user" is "taken down by the user".

...Anyway, on the subject of green teas, I think a good green tea for people who aren't big on green tea is genmaicha. It's green tea leaves blended with toasted, popped rice, which gives the tea a warm, nutty, unexpectedly-hearty-for-a-green-tea taste...it's the most comfort-food-y of green teas, I think. Adagio sells some, but it's a pretty common Japanese green tea blend, so you should be able to find it from any number of other tea sellers. Sometimes you might even be able to order it at a Japanese restaurant.

Fun fact about using Adagio's Lapsang Souchong as a component tea for a blend; if you make the blend more than 10% Lapsang Souchong that WILL be the ONLY thing you'll be able to taste in it. Even a 10% Lapsang Souchong blend ends up tasting pretty darn smoky.

(Adagio's Lapsang Souchong was the first and only lapsang souchong I've ever tried, and I found it...really interesting, but also I prefer my teas to be "sweet" and not "smoky and charred in a vaguely meaty way", so there's really no amount of sugar I could add to it that I'd find satisfactory. I've also tried some of Adagio's pu erhs, and I think the pu erhs of at least one or two other places? A common complaint for bad pu erhs is that they end up tasting "musty" or "fishy", so I worry about ordering any from places I don't entirely trust, but I think Adagio's Pu Erh Dante is pretty good. It tastes, like...woodsy? Not in a "tree" way but a "mushrooms and undergrowth" way. Kind of a forest-after-rain feel.)

(Adagio's other pu erhs that I've tried are good, but they're also Very Flavored, so they don't really taste much like pu erhs. Like, I like their Pu Erh Hazelberry, but that's just because...I like hazelnut and strawberry...not because I have any feelings about the base tea underneath. They do have one other unflavored pu erh, Pu Erh Poe, which I haven't tried. Mostly because they don't let me use it in blends, and therefore it is useless to me.)

(...The thing about pu erhs, though, is that all of the ones people say are "really good" are...also the ones that are "really expensive". They're the fine aged wines of tea, both in that they're literally aged, and in that they can get really, really expensive. ...So it's hard for me to say whether or not I really know anything about what a "good pu erh" is. I'm not out to spend that kind of money.)

Yes, that's the one!!!! I'm so relieved you can still get it. I had a roommate who was really into Teen Wolf but I was just into the tea.

I used to drink lapsang souchong while eating baklava.

I enjoy pu erh but I have no idea whether the ones I've had are any good or not. I usually get either pu erh or sao mei in Chinese restaurants.

most japanese green teas absolutely taste like lawn clippings to me. on the other hand, chinese green teas can be quite nice. and there is an awesome chinese restaurant in town that uses cheapish pu-erh tea as their complementary tea with meals, and it's perfect for rich and spicy foods.

personally if I'm not gonna drink black tea, I like tea blends with semi-green or 'oolong' tea. it's nice and mellow without being either too caffeinated or too green-tasting.

ice cold matcha lattes on a hot day are straight up magical and that's a fact

On the topic of drinks, I've bitched about Lucozade changing their recipe, so after some advice from Reddit I'm intending to modify an open source cola recipe and try to kludge together my own. Sadly I have to save up to get all the various necessary chemical ingredients :(

I've only ever had fried chicken with gravy or barbecue sauce. Ranch sounds like it would be good though....
