btw i just remembered this was the first place i heard daveed diggs' voice (explicit lyrics, video flashes rapidly, heads up):

and lemme tell you, hearing that voice playing thomas jefferson is... odd.

@Choco yep, i can definitely hear jefferson in that song. and i'm tempted to trigger warn for incomplete letters, since those got my brainbugs in as much as a tizzy as the flashing did. i mean, neither of those things were triggery for me, but they both felt weird.

Crossfandom bullshit time: Every time I hear My Shot and I get to the revolutionaries' introductions, I cannot help but see the Steven Universe extended theme song in my head. That said, Garnet is Marquise de Lafayette, Pearl is John Laurens, and Amethyst is Hercules Mulligan. And Rose is George Washington. Hamilton, though the protagonist, will be played by Peridot, because can you IMAGINE.

I can maybe imagine Lapis being a particularly sarcastic T Jeffs but casting honestly falls apart at this point. (and I'm still not entirely sure I shouldn't switch Garnet and Pearl though Pearl really needs Lauren's slave revolution theme and queer power)

I love the mental image of Garnet doing Guns and Ships

Consider Peridot as Jefferson. Imagine her doing that "uh...france?" bit or "These are wise words enterprising men quote them/ don't act surprised you guys cause I wrote em!"

Maybe Steven as Hamilton, Lapis as Burr and Connie as Eliza?

Ohhh, Peridot as Jeffs, also compelling. I was thinking of her 'you haven't heard of me but I'm GOING TO BE THE BEST" energetic immigrant attitude a la "me, Peridot, the new leader of the crystal gems?!" But she does have the sass... hmmm. It would give her more opportunity for Zim Screeching. Imagine the bit in Washington on Your Side where Jeffs just loses it... you know

    [JEFFERSON]
I’m in the cabinet. I am complicit in
Watching him grabbin’ at power and kiss it
    If Washington isn’t gon’ listen
To disciplined dissidents, this is the difference:

    This kid is out!

    She'd rule at it.

I wanted Garnet and Pearl to both be Lafayette really until I thought of "see me riding up with the first Pearl battalion!!" and then I was set. She's Laurens.

Isn't Garnet de Lafayette just a compelling image?.... Makin' redcoats redder with bloodstains B)

EDIT: I completely forgot to address 'Lapis as Burr.' Dude, yes. Why didn't I think of that? Cool, collected, calm, cultured, until she gets a look at what she could have and decides, after a few decades of slings and arrows, that nothing will stop her from getting it now. NOTHING.

Sorry guys, it's me again, but listen:

I AM THE ONE THING IN LIFE I CAN CONTROL
I AM INIMITABLE, I AM AN ORIGINAL
I'M NOT FALLING BEHIND OR RUNNING LATE
I'M NOT STANDING STILL, I AM LYING IN WAIT

If I try to post again before someone else does, though, stop me.

Consider: Connie as Eliza. (honestly idk about Steven, he's not fitting nicely somewhere)

Steven is such a little sweetie. This play is for older, mature sweeties. We would need something of a gavroche role for him or else we would have to see what he's like as an adult because he's so... I just don't want to throw him into this mess -u-

    ...so he should be Peggy.

I’ve been reading Common Sense by Thomas Paine
So men say that I’m intense or I’m insane
You want a revolution? I want a revelation
    So listen to my declaration:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident
That all men are created equal”
And when I meet Thomas Jefferson
I’m ‘a compel him to include women in the sequel!
