Oh sweet a fujoshi thread /sets up camp here. Thank you for the observation about the names in Fake, I will NEVER stop laughing now.

It's probably not an exaggeration to say that some of this stuff helped me realize/come to terms with my own sexuality. Fake was definitely one of my formative experiences as a baby yaoi shipper, and now I'm just sad I never managed to buy copies of it for myself (as if I need more print manga to take up space in my room). Also, giggling over Gravitation with classmates like it was the most scandalous thing we could ever think of. Honestly, most of what I remember about that series is that it was really weird.

I haven't read Killing Stalking or whatever "problematic" BL things are popular with the tumblr kids these days, but given how many times I've read Maiden Rose, I feel like I really don't have a right to judge anyone else's taste in ships. (...and I didn't think I'd actually be admitting to liking Maiden Rose in public, but whatever idc anymore problematic tastes party whooo)

Is it even an intentional dick joke. Did 'the D' mean dick when it was written. Do I care if it was intentional? No, no I do not.

OH MY GOD I FORGOT ABOUT LOVELESS. What a weird-ass manga, but god bless the author for being so shameless in her self-indulgence. I don't even like age difference ships normally, what was it about that manga??

I haven't read it in years but I'm legit still a bit invested in finding out what the hell was up with Kio's backstory, as one cursed to fall in love with the side characters in weird BL manga.

I'M STILL UNIRONICALLY INTO LOVELESS TBH
I adore Yun Kouga's artwork and I was so into the little analysis essays Tokyopop published in the first few volumes. I love Seimei's villain speech in the library, I love the depictions of Soubi and Ritsuka's trauma, I love Yoji and Natsuo SO MUCH THEY'RE SO CUTE, I love dear sweet innocent Yuiko and I love Kio cuz he's just like "Hi, I'm here, I'm not immediately relevant to the plot, I'm just openly thirsty for Soubi, nbd"

Yun Kouga's much older work, Earthian, is also close to my heart. There's an OVA that's so different from the original it doesn't really count as an adaptation. Whoever played Kazahaya was really well cast, though.
I did an analysis presentation on it in my second year of high school, whipped up at the last minute because I lost the book I'd planned to use before finishing it... I went way over time explaining the plot and themes

Loveless came out just when I was getting tired of the extreme age difference seme uke thing so I missed it.

Let's resurrect the loveless fandom so that the antis can have an aneryism.

Was anyone else so deep into the fandom that they got invested in a property before they even saw it? Just from fanfiction/badly scanned doujinshi and fansites? That happened with me and Gundam Wing, this was way before it aired on cartoon network

I did an interactive powerpoint on Loveless for my Year 9 ICT class. In the character profiles I included whether or not characters still had their ears, and if not, who they'd lost them to.

My teacher banned us from doing projects on anime or manga after that.

    14-year-old me was incredibly oblivious.

@a tiny mushroom that's the best story I've heard all day. I'm imagining what it was like to be your teacher watching this 14 year old kid talk about virginity, cat ears and abuse

Please imagine a male teacher in his 50s, with a class of all teenage girls, realising one of them had done her project on a weird Japanese comic where virgins have cat ears and people have weird shouty bondage fights.

He put up with a lot of shit, the poor man.

I'm down to bring back Loveless. It's still running in Monthly Comic Zero-Sum (despite many hiatuses). I'll draw a zillion aggressively suggestive pin-ups of Yoji and Natsuo.

Omg. I have all the volumes published by Shoujo Beat, but I stopped reading it online because the plot stopped making sense. But I think that was more the translators not doing a very good job. Do you know if anyone else has picked up the English translation and publishing?

Viz Media has it now! They put out the first 8 in two-in-one editions and have the rest in single volumes up to volume 12. So, they're up-to-date. Looks like the series has been on hiatus for... A While.

same, it came out just when I was finally sick of all the tropes it was using, so I never really got into it ):

HI YES FAKE IS AWESOME AND I WAS JUST SCREAMING ABOUT LOVELESS ELSEWHERE

I have a lot of Feelings about Loveless. Especially how it looks like it's going to be a stereotypical yaoi-type thing and it REALLY REALLY isn't.

well google translate tells me the the generic and non-gendered (as possible in a gendered language) word for a human being is
    人間, "ningen"

    Fujoshi is spelled 腐女子
    Fudanshi is spelled 腐男子

    腐 is "fu," rotten.

So in made up fake Japanese you'd get
    腐人間, "funingen," rotten person

Also fujoshi is a homophone pun on 婦女子, also pronounced "fujoshi" except with the character 婦 it means a respectable woman. Thanks Wikipedia!

NOTE: I CANNOT SPEAK OR READ JAPANESE PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS AT FACE VALUE

"Ningen" is a kinda formal term, afaik. It's generally used to refer to humans-as-opposed-to-other life forms rather than just, y'know, people. I wonder if we could get away with just using 腐子, with the gender-specific kanji removed entirely.

Or maybe turn it into a noun phrase, 腐い子 (kusai ko), "rotten children."

speedy edit: that last kanji does mean "child," but it is also used sometimes to refer to adults in a non-infantilizing way.
