covert/shy narcissist maybe? more prone to depression, conceives of oneself as a misunderstood special person, also more prone to responding to narcissistic injury with violence than a classic narcissist
do neurological disorders count as brainweird? this might even be canon (the syphilis itself is half-canon, that is, it's johnny depp's headcanon, and he had his makeup artist paint a sore on his jaw that grew every movie), but captain jack sparrow is 100% experiencing the side-effects of neurosyphilis. some symptoms thereof, according to various online health resources: * aphasia and other articulatory language issues * "an altered walk" * trouble balancing, general loss of coordination * visual hallucinations * mania * poor concentration * poor vision
After discussing with my brother, we've agreed: the most important takeaway from Netflixvania Season 3 is that Carmilla is the ADHD evil mastermind representation we deserve. You look away for one second and she's already miles down the train of thought of some new evil scheme that she insists is her most brilliant yet, and meanwhile it's her sisters who are left to turn Step 2: ??? / Step 3: Rule world into an actionable plan somehow.
Some discussion with a friend pegged both the title character and Lir in The Last Unicorn as having certain Cluster B tendencies. I'd have to ask her what specifically the traits she picked out were because I can't find them in the Googledocs, but I agreed at the time. I think it was about how the unicorn has to actively learn about empathy and regret, and Lir seems like a danger-seeker, among other things. I'll check.
I mean on one level the unicorn is sorta disqualified by being a unicorn? It's said that that's just how they go.
Mh, I guess, but if it's just how all unicorns are then it's like....If a human is blind then they're disabled, right? But if a cave salamander is blind they're just...a totally normal cave salamander. It's not something that's different from the baseline, it's not a problem. They're meant to be like that.
Some commenters in the forums of the webcomic Leftover Soup concluded that Max Hellenberger has ASPD, and I think I agree. While she does try her best to make people happy and make the world a better place, she completely lacks any trace of empathy. She sexually harasses everyone in sight and thinks of it as selflessly offering herself up, with no understanding of why it might make them uncomfortable. She starts a family fight when she won't join her family in visiting her brother's grave on his death-day because she didn't just tell them she prefers to remember him on his birthday instead, and some things she's said about her veganism imply she does not instinctively see any ethical difference between humans and animals in the way most people do; unlike the stereotypical sociopath, this manifests in her avoiding harm to either category (with the exception of the problems caused by her lack of empathy - she is trying to be good).
I'm playing Hades with my brother and we just saw the flashback to Zagreus's office job. I'm honestly not sure whether or not the narrator's comments are intended to be repeated, comically-unsubtle implications that Zagreus has undiagnosed ADHD, but that is definitely what they are.
I turn on Atelier Ayesha. The title character's actions in the first scene in which she appears are as follows: She's doing an alchemical synthesis to make medicine someone ordered minutes before he's due to arrive to pick it up. Her pet cow thing starts complaining from outside the house. She remembers she forgot to feed her. She goes outside and starts shoveling hay for her cow. She then gets distracted by how nice the weather is and starts wondering if she should do the laundry today while the sun is out. She remembers that she hasn't eaten breakfast yet, so she should do that first, except it's getting pretty late, so maybe she should combine it with lunch, does she have an egg somewhere, she could eat that with that leftover soup from yesterday- She notices there is smoke coming out of her window. The guy who came to pick up medicine walks in to find her standing in a cloud of alchemical smoke, shoveling food into her mouth with one hand while she stirs the cauldron with the other and tries to remember what step she was on before. I say, out loud, "Girl, synthesize some Adderall, it'll change your life."
i've been getting back into getter robo, my first favourite janky old mech franchise, lately, and man. with my current perspective, none of the OG three mains are in any way neurotypical. none of them. i'm trying to pinpoint *some* things, at least symptom clusters, in order to write fanfic, and it's a hell of a time, but i'm claiming hayato jin for the "(allegedly) large brain, no empathy, doing their best nontheless" crowd because he's my favourite. there's a scene in the most recent anime adaption where he reflects on having a reputation for being a heartless bastard and going "MAYBE SO", and it got me right in the "ah shit, i know that" feelings.
I think Homer might have the non-hyperactive variety of ADD too - most of his problems stem from impulsiveness more than simple stupidity.
There's also one episode where he's scurrying around like an excited kid and Marge tells him he's overstimulated and needs beer and bed. I don't think medicating with beer is wise, but you see my point.
Buck Williams of the Left Behind series appears to have social phobia, according to the Slacktivist sporking: "Despite the fact that the two men couldn't be more than 50 yards apart, Buck seems more comfortable negotiating even such an elementary patron-clerk conversation by phone."
