We got one of those brushes with our most recently adopted cats - I'm always a little concerned it might be taking the hair that's supposed to be there with the frankly implausible amount of fluff you take away from it, but the cats don't seem to have a problem with it.

 

Buggaboo gets a brushing out with a flea comb twice a year to help her get rid of her undercoat. She doesn’t have fleas, usually, but it’s the only brush I’ve found for her that actually gets the shed fur out.

 

Penny has a similar brush and given the amount of time she spends on top of the ac if she doesn't get brushed out with it, I think even if it gets a little too much fur she definitely appreciates it.
