Hello I am here to talk about coat genetics!

The genes for tabby pattern are present in all cats. The gene that lets tabby show is called agouti, and causes the hairs to be banded with melanin. This is why all red cats are tabbies - they have relatively low levels of eumelanin (black pigment), so even if they have the recessive, solid allele of the agouti gene, they have no dark pigment to express as solid, and the tabby pattern shows through.

The solid allele just suppresses the tabby pattern genes, so sometimes a little tabby shows through. It's especially common for black kittens to show "ghost tabby" markings that fade with age. It's equally common for adult black cats that spend a lot of time in the sun to "rust", like Steve has, and reveal the secret tabby markings!

I just watched my cat's tail 'sneak up' on her when she was washing. She went for it all four paws and claws extended and then made the Very Offended face when I laughed at her. Daftie.

I put in an application to adopt a cat today!!!!! There's no reason that I know of why they wouldn't approve me but whenever I want something SO MUCH the creeping worries get me.

His name is Dumpie because he was found in a dumpster, but if I get him I will call him Bill. Why? He is orange, and my friend's orange cats are named Fred and George, and my brother has a cat named Charlie (he's not orange but still). And Bill is just an excellent name for a cat. This also makes references to many other Bills, including but not limited to: Bill Nye, Mr. Bill, Bill from Pokémon, Bill Dauterive, Billious Slick, and Bill Cipher (and I kindly request that any rp accounts who want to comment on this just @ me in the rave rp thread instead of here XD) I highly encourage the chanting of "BILL BILL BILL" in his presence.

This will not stop me from calling him "trashcat" or "freegan" though. XD
