This is a bit more of a serious question than usual for this thread, but - my brother's cat is on hormonal birth control, except she was showing obvious signs of heat all day if not more, and I just caught my own cat having sex with her. What are the options there, given that my mother doesn't actually take this seriously and just plans to keep giving her the pills on schedule?

The main concern is that I have basically no say in the cat's health - my mother handles that, and she just doesn't give a fuck. She's convinced if she just gives her a birth control pill tomorrow, it will prevent ovulation, but from what I know of cat reproduction, that's already too late.
It's also made a bit more complicated by the fact that I actually have to leave for the next two weeks.
